My mums insured my car for me, on a seperate policy and im the second driver, now on her other policy she is fully comp with her own car, will that invalidate my insurance as apparantly your not allowed to be insured twice on one car?

Fully comp insurance is her own insures a ford focus - third party on other cars
Third party insurance insures my punto - insures my car for me and she is also the a driver on the policy.

If she enters another car shes only third party.

Shes on about 2 clams for the same car kind of thing thats why your not allowed to have 2 policies on the same car.

Huh? Im confused?

So your mum is insuring her car and your car on 2 seperate policies, and on your car you are a named driver?

Dont see nay issues there, think your just getting confused with the Drive Other Car cover she has on her policy that allows her to drive any car that isnt insured by or owned by her 3rd party.

No issues then, apart from the fact your fronting.

Your post doesnt make much sense.

I read it as she is FC on her Focus and has DOC.

In which case the policy with herself and you on the Punto wouldnt be invalidated. DOC is only valid if the car already has an insurance policy on it, its not a policy in its own right.

You are allowed multiple policies on one car, regardless of what the majority of people will say. A friend does it and he had checked it out fully.

Your fronting?

Me driving?

Erm, so she is allowed to have 2 policies then? Because technically shes insured twice on my car now isnt she..

She has 3 years no claims on her car, we used that no claims on the other policy too, so will it affect her first policy if she has to claim? Although if i smashed the car up it wouldnt be worth claiming.

Someone answer this please :)

Always check with both insurance companies - some might not like it, others can be fine with it, so it's always best to check (as with anything insurance related, it's better to check and be safe, than make any assumptions).

Thats why i came here, if anyone says to check ill check, it 99.9% of people say its fine then ill take there word for it.

Even if i smash my car up im not claiming, if your under 21yo you have to put 300 upfront along with 100 excess towards damages, id rather write it off or get my own mechanic to fix it cheeper.

What?

1. So your mother has a policy for her Focus, on said policy she is Fully Comp and has 3 years no claims. DOC is irrelevant.

2. You mother has taken out another policy in her name, for your car and put you as a named driver. She has also used her 3 years NCB from 1. on this policy? If so, she'll lose the NCB on 1. unless she has done it with the same company, even then they probably won't like it. She'll have to prove that evidence of 3 NCB which will mean taking them from 1. IRRC.

So your mother is fronting a policy to get you cheaper insurance, just bite the bullet and be the main driver, it'll cost you more but you'll gain NCB and it won't be able to bite either of you in the bum if an accident happens.

If you have all these questions, why dont you phone your insurance company.

They will be able to give you a correct answer right there and then on the phone.

Rather than someone on the interwebs said XYZ....

You can't use you ncb on 2 policies at the same time. This will come to light when they ask for ncb proof to finalie the policy.

I had to insure a 2nd car last yearsnd it's bloody expensive when you get zero ncb

It is possible to put the insurance in your name, have your mum as a named driver, but the main driver at the same time.

I think it was on one of the comparison sites :)

Insure your car in your name, its worth the extra cost for the NCB you will build. The biggest regret I have is spending the first 2 years driving as a named driver.

The price wont likely be that much higher though. Your mums policy with you as names will not be much cheaper than your policy with your mum as named.

And the Drive Other Car on her Focus does not mean she is insured on your car twice. When she dries your car she is covered by the policy on that car, the DOC covers cars not insured or owned by her.

Sounds like you're fronting.

If you can't afford your own insurance, don't drive.

When you finally decide to be a named driver on an insurance policy, you will have to pay a large(r) premium. It's better to start racking up those NCBs now.. the incentive should make you a safer/better driver too.

Forget about the (DOC) driving other cars bit.

There is NO problem, she has a policy on her car and a policy on your car with you as a named driver. That's legal.

The only problem that might/will crop up is regarding the NCB if she has used the same NCB's on two vehicles.

your mum does not have 2 policies on the punto.

she has 1 on the focus and 1 on the punto, the 3rd party DOC is not a policy on the punto.

However, if you will drive the punto more than your mum but she is the main driver listed, you will be fronting, but as said this can be hard to prove and unless you have a very costly accident they wont bother trying to find out!
