Im looking for some damn good RTS games that are competitive online aswell.

Currently i own:-

World In Conflict
Company of Heroes + Oppossing Fronts
Red Alert 3 (Massivley unbalanced i think!)
Rome Total War (the complete set)
Battle For Middle Earth 2 + Witch King

So are there any others that are worth a punt?

Sadly there isn't any new RTS that are any good.

Which is a shame really.

Grand Ages: Rome looks like it could be good, but i feel it'll get repetitive really fast.

Could try getting into the DoW2 beta as it is open, might be your thing

I have pre-orderd this through game, the collecters box set.

Im also waiting for Empire: Total War.

Whats this 'Star Craft' like then, ive heard somethings about it.

And how much can i get Sup-Com and Forged Alliance for then?

Supreme Commander: Forged alliance includes everything from the original supcom except the campaign and is a standalone, but you can only play the new race and not the 3 originals in multiplayer. So if you don't want to spend too much get forged alliance first.

Both are 10€'s here at my local electronics chain. So 20 for both.

Whats the original StarCraft like?

Sup-Com, is it hard to pick up and learn or?

I want good graphics for the RTS', so will my rig power Sup-Com into full graphics? (22" moniter, soon to be 24" HD jobby)

+1 for supreme commander

easy to pick up just play through sp first and try to use a more offensive strat instead of turtling up otherwise you'll end up with nukes raining down on your hole base :D

edit : also your rig will be fine i had no problems playing on the rig in my signiture

Supreme Commander Forged Alliance is quite simply the best RTS I have ever played. Better even than AoE2 which had set the bar since. Can't believe it took me so long to buy this game. Money very well spent imo!

yeah as far as modern RTS go, theres nothing on the market better than supreme commander, it can be pretty long winded sometimes, but then that all depends how you like to play. its perfectly simple to play a nice short game of supreme commander or have a long game with T3 artillery fest and experimentals!

dawn of war is another quality RTS that i would recommend, can be had for around £10 or less now, squad based RTS like company of heroes but set in the future in the warhammer 40K universe :) and if your a proper RTS fan then you MUST purchase starcraft and brood war, there next to nothing to buy these days but its one of the simplest, best balanced and most addictive RTS ever made! :D

16 posts in and no Dawn of War recommendation?

easily my favourite, has some superb expansions as well.

winter assault and dark crusade were awesome (NECRONS!!!) but soulstorm was a bit disappointing, they should have added tyranids not the stupid sisters of battle!

I agree, when i started with DoW i was a heavy 40K gamer myself, 3K points of Tau, Dark Eldar, Chaos and a 2K nids army. Needless to say i grew out of it and sold it all.
