Getting a place on my own...

No. I live on £400 after everything is paid off, but also put away £500 into savings, so I technically have £900 disposable. I always dip into the savings.

Think you'll find it hard. One night out would blow that. £62 a week would get gobbled up in no time.

250 a month disposable isn't a lot in London at all so for me that would be totally unworkable, or at least have very little social life and very little outgoings which are non bill related, i.e. car, motorbike, tax, insurance, fuel, going out, gym, sports, cinema, eating out, theatre etc.... 250 could easily be spent in a week. Not sure what NI is like for living expenses, but even with all bills paid it's not THAT much to play with, and I'm very careful with my money.

When I was 19, I only had about £80 a month to play with after all my outgoings and amazingly I survived.

I supposed it just depends on what you value more, your freedom or your creature comforts!

After my rent and bills, I have £1000 a month to live off. I spend £400 on food (I'm a gannet), £200 on random stuff like DVDs, hobbies, random bills, etc and save £400.

This is what you get if you slum it in a dodgy houseshare (with windows that fall out) for £280 pcm rent, all bills included. :D

Anyone who lives in Bristol will understand why my Southmead house is so cheap. :p

What, is there a beluga caviar takeaway near you or something?

This is assuming that after ALL bills are paid, and by that I mean: council tax, home insurance, car insurance, motorbike insurance, phone bill, mobile bill, internet, tv licence, water, gas, electricity, rent, food bills, unexpected bills/expenses, money aside for savings.

I like to go out for a meal once a week with friends, and possibly go out for a drink or two. I have to fuel the car which shouldn't be included in a monthly expense as it's too variable. I also like to go to the cinema, or go into town to see things/do things, and maybe drive to see friends/family. Gifts, and dare I say buy stuff for myself! £250 is not a lot. And yes I do tend to side on luxury rather than crap because I can't stand cheap nasty food for example. :)

puh i live of less tbh

rent £100 a week
council tax £34 a week
food £80-100 a week
petrol £25 a week
gas £20 a week
electric £10-15 a week
nappies £10 a week
baby milk £10 a week
water £5.50 a week
living in your own 3 bedroom house pricless :P

na for real thats just what goes out every week let alone extras like tv licence, tax, insurance etc etc every year then u have like said befor unforseen things like car buggering up like it did to me the other week cambelt went :(.

£250 a month sounds a lot but when u start getting other crap going on wont last five minutes.

btw good luck m8 hope it all works out for you.

If you have taken all overheads into account then £250 would be fine to live on.

You won't get unexpected things turn up every month. Unexpected things turn up to those who are either careless with their finances or use something that needs maintenence ( a car for example ) and even if it was a car, the chances of an unexpected £250 a month in maintenence is a little over the top.

I suppose you're social life will have to be taken into account. Do you go out eating and drinking with friends a lot?
