Vauxhall has created the cheapest 500+bhp car on sale in the UK, retailing at £44,995. The VXR8 Bathurst S Edition benefits from a Walkinshaw Performance 122 Supercharger which actually makes it one of the most powerful cars on sale in the UK, pushing out a mighty 560bhp.

There is a normally aspirated Bathurst Edition but the ‘S’ will now sit at the top of the VXR family tree. To make sure the hard-charging Bathurst can stop, six-pot front and four-pot rear callipers are now standard on both models.

Stiffer, height-adjustable springs and Walkinshaw-developed coil-over dampers have also been fitted to improve the handling. The bespoke damper units have 15 separate valve settings with independent corner adjustment for the owner’s preferred setup.

Thanks to the supercharger being fitted to the LS3 V8 engine torque is now up to 527lb ft. The supercharger package also includes a large capacity intercooler, high-flow fuel injectors, a separate cold air intake and Walkinshaw-developed ECU map, while the standard manual gearbox is upgraded with a high-torque capacity clutch.

Outside, both Bathursts are instantly recognisable by their distinctive graphic packs, front fog light covers and ‘Bathurst’ badges, while inside a console-mounted badge showing the car’s build number complements the ‘Walkinshaw Performance’ tread plates found inside each door opening.

The Bathurst gets the option of a Bi-Modal exhaust which ups power by 10bhp and allows two settings: ‘Street’ with an upper limit of 92dbA, or ‘Optimum’, which releases the LS3 V8’s full 102dbA. The two-and-a-half inch diameter system is manufactured from stainless steel with unique chrome tail-pipe finishers and costs £1600.

Both Bathurst models can also be specified with optional 20” alloy wheels at £1500. List price for the Bathurst Edition is £37,995 –£2757 above the standard VXR8 – while the Bathurst S costs £44,995.

Can't wait till these drop to about £15,000.

I always said I'd have a Skyline when I turn 30 (5 years away) but I do quite fancy one of these instead! :)

Didn't Top gear do a review of the old version of one of those ?
If so it was Awesome, All mechanical power & lots of fun apparently. Aussie V8' rock my World & if it has been developed anywhere near Bathurst it'll be superb.

Interesting numberplate in that pic :).

I thought that. No idea why they've used a plate from 2001

Can't see any of the pics because Vodafone 'Content Control' blocks everything but I'm going to guess the plate is DE51 RED. This has been owned by Vauxhall since 2001 and is usually put onto high interest press demonstrators.

Completely off-topic, but a quick call to 191 will get that content control bar removed for good :)

Brilliant, thanks. It tends to irritate me when I'm in no position to do anything about it, then I forget about it until it irritates me again. Quite why I have 'content control' on my contract handset when they have my date of birth on file is beyond me.

I didn't realised that it was such a desired plate (:p). It only says DESIRED.

You'd think they'd have something like VX 1 for these purposes.

Because you might let your children use your phone and then sue vodafone when the little darlings go looking for porn.

They also need to be a bit more careful about the wording, maybe the cheapest new 500bhp car in the UK but there's plenty of cheaper ones out there. Can probably pick up a 500bhp Skyline for a lot under 10 grand these days.

Not brand new though. Brand new, this is the cheapest 500 brake+ car. :)

Yup, the Vauxhall Monaro which this replaces as it was discontinued in 2007. If I remember rightly they took it on to a beach and loved it, giving it the best muscle car award.

In was basically a rebadged Holden Monaro, like you say a Australian V8 car.

Because some companies like to position themselves as "family friendly" and others do not. Some companies are more paranoid about getting sued than others. If you had AOL broadband then it'd be filtered. Congratulations on choosing a mobile network provider that filters by default.

(I particularly like how their filtering breaks the CSS on the somethingawful forums such that the post and reply buttons start repeatedly swapping location as soon as you move the mouse over one of them.)
