Just had an email through from work asking anyone who can watch TV through their phone or their computer (via the net i.e. iPlayer) refrain from doing so at work as they haven't got a TV licence!

I was under the impression that you didn't need a TV licence for your phone or iPlayer etc. Only if you received a signal through a TV card in your PC?

Can anyone confirm?

For some reason my phone can't connect to the TV Licence website :(

Do you have a TV Licence for your home? If so, then politely inform work that you've paid for your licence and it's not your fault that they're lacking.

Even if it was a live stream assuming the op has a tv licence at his residence as it is battery powered it is covered by that.

Watching anything that isn't live is fine such as iPlayer on your phone or computer even if you don't have a TV Licence. Watching live broadcasts on a phone or battery powered device outside your home is also fine if you do have a TV Licence (your home one covers it, you don't need one to cover the site your watching it at).

Awaits someone saying 'if you have a tv, even if its not tuned or plugged in you must have a licence'

My Daughter's current job is to call companies advising them of the lack of licensing for televisions and radios in their workplace. They pay over the phone for the licence and job done.

Her bonuns has hit the roof. Just goes to show the small particulars that companies miss.

Ridiculous tbh.
Its like the garages who need to have a license to play music because a customer might hear it!!

I dont understand why it's ridiculous.

Its a building, it has a television or radio, they pay a license.

We do at home so why shouldn't companies?

Because its music for the staff, a standard license should cover it imo.
