Beautiful CB500 and interesting review

The other problem in general is how do you sample these bikes? Truth be told I'd like to ride them all, since I know nothing 'real' otherwise just hearsay.

Do private sellers mind you test riding them?

And to be honest, the only reason I want a CB500 is that it all that I can afford till Sep.

I will be on good money (about 40k) so could easily go and get a thou fireblade! The point is, I want something cheap for the summer to tour on. May well replace it by winter, but also do not know exactly what part of London I will be living in then so need to be careful about insurance!

And indeed how safe my workplace areas to park will be.

i wouldnt ride anything without a test ride, most private owners are fine with this if you approach it responsibly.

I'm happy to leave a deposit if I meet the owner at his house and hes hows me currnet utility bills etc to ensure that it is his house, then will leave a small deposit and my passport while I test ride (done this a few times)

wouldnt dream of leaving any of my id or cash if meeting in a layby or similar.

I read that as meeting in a ladyboy. ; /

Maybe I should get a GPZ then!? :)

Anything form the 90's will be a reasonable price to insure, everything over 5 to 6 years old tends not to be ridden by those in the grasp of a midlife crisis or weekend warriors, and the insurance reflects this.

My old ZZR is £160 fully comp, supposedly does 0-60 in 3.3 seconds, and 160 mph.
A quote on a 3 year old R6, comes in at nearly £400, an R6 makes 20-30 bhp more than my tired old ZZR weighs a truck load less, but its top speed is..........160mph, and it does 0-60 in 3.3 seconds......

You wont be loosing any thrills by buying an old performance bike, you just wont be riding something as expensive or shiny.

I think 3.3 and 160 is abit unlikley . more like 4ish and 145 ish i would say given its 100hp .
But would be a much better choice than a cb 500 . As everyone has said its a basic commuter and will be fun for 5 mins . Look at older stuff or save abit and get an older Hornet .

And although it was me that said the Bandits rot infront of yer eyes if cared for they will be fine but neglet it at yer peril ..But still make good second hand buys just be picky with what you buy .

Persil

I love the look of 80's bikes. Are they less safe, less forgiving? Uneven power distribution?

I cannot 'save' because as I have said a million times. I am buying for the summer and I have no income!

After the summer, well, thats a different story..

The first zzr600s topped out at 149, well according to PB, then they added ramair and they could hit 164 if i remember... though the zzr looks same on paper a R6 would whiz past pretty quick at any speed, especially the new ones. Not knocking it, owned both and zzr is a fantastic bike that pulls like a train and was a real ground breaker.

Same can be said for that GPz900, it's still a cool bike and a classic i rekon, first proddy bike to hit over 150mph. You would look cool on it still, coupled with some aviator sunglasses... but no ones ever looked cool on a CB500, thats the truth guv lol

I don't think it realy matters what you use it for, there are bikes out there that will do most things, if not all, better and for roughly the same money.

I took my DAS on that age/model CB500..

And having moved onto other bikes, I err, well,

*remembers the saying "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all"*

So, err, yeah........

:)
