Beautiful CB500 and interesting review

dont matter if u race/cruise/tour/commute ...it still sucks

Just not true.

If you have a simple inner city commute but dont want to ride a moped or a 125. Then I can think of nothing better.

1. It does not attract thieves.
2. pre 1995 manufactured in Japan and one of the most reliable of all time.
3. Cheap to buy, insure and run.

No Kawasaki, Yamaha or Suzuki are as reliable and cheap. See what Bike magazine recently wrote about it. The GS500, the ER-5 - bags of poo, largely, the CB500.... not a bag of poo.

It really gets on my nerves the way a lot of bikers want to criticise certain bikes. God, being on two wheels is relatively fun, I am sure, it doesnt HAVE TO TOP OUT AT 170 TO BE ENJOYABLE!

Well given my 26 years in the saddle and your none i think my opinion hold a little more weight than someone who has not even done there cbt yet .

If i wanted a cheap dependable winter commuter and i was VERY strapped for cash then maybe .
But purley as a means of transport . And you will always get fanboys on the net that will say its the best thing since sliced bread but they have normally never ridden much .

Its your call ..Your cash ... If it floatd yer boat then dont let me tell you otherwise :)

Sorry to sound like a gimp by the way.

But that was the only point I was making. I am a dstudent and literaly have no money till sep... :)

I mean, my mate is going to sell me his hornet for £1400. 25k ish on the clock, 2001. Absolute bargain.

Its not a "bargain" but if its in good nick its an "ok" price . And if u can get the hornet why are u bashing on about the cb500?

Persil

just checked a few places and 2000 hornets are going between 500 and 1500 depending on miles and condition ., I sold mine with only 7k miles 2001 with all the extras for 2k :P so i personally think 1.4k is a little steep ...

Trouble is now is the time to buy as prices are at a all time low ...when the better weather comes in prices will rise .

Where are you getting those figures from? God at that price a CB500 realy is pointless. Hornets are cheap to ensure. I suppose they arent brilliant on petrol. and I don think theya re supposed to be that comfy are they?

As Persil has already said, you will get fanboys all over the net, as you can see Persil has a lot of experience with bikes "26 years" and has probably riden a lot of bikes in that time and knows what he is talking about, as do i, i have also had a lot of experience on bikes "28 years" and i can honestly say the CB500 is very good at one thing, very cheap to run.

I can fully understand why you want this bike as everyone has to start somwhere, the good thing about buying the CB500 is you will be amazed at the Hornet when you finaly buy it from your mate, good choice, and again, good luck with your theory, it'll be a doddle.

it's all well and good if you are just buying a bike for transport and thats all. but you seem to be very enthusiastic and passionate about biking already before even getting one and this will only lead to bitter dissapointment on a CB500.

a CB500 is the car equiv of going out and buying a clapped out ford fiesta, 20 years old... no-one here is likely to approve or get excited for you or rave about it :-), it's just a dull bike for people called Norman, Malcom or Trevor

I think 3.3 and 160 is abit unlikley . more like 4ish and 145 ish i would say given its 100hp .
But would be a much better choice than a cb 500 . As everyone has said its a basic commuter and will be fun for 5 mins . Look at older stuff or save abit and get an older Hornet .

And although it was me that said the Bandits rot infront of yer eyes if cared for they will be fine but neglet it at yer peril ..But still make good second hand buys just be picky with what you buy .

Those are the book figures for the first Ram Air ZZR 600's on the internet, its not really the point I'm making.

the ZZR600 was the fastest 600 on the planet when it was introduced.. it was a beast!

bikes have come on along way since, but it's still a amazing bike for the money...

here is my old one, was only about 19 or so when I bought it, had about 800miles on clock and paid about 4k for it, now you could get a minter way over half that money

Yea but modern sportsbikes are 100% better than sportsbikes 10 years ago, what are we trying to get at here lol?

The only older bike I would go for is the Honda NC35/35 RC45.

Is that he wont be getting less raw thrills by buying an older cheaper bike, just different ones.
He will still be going like a loon, it just wont be as expensive.

Here are standing 1/4 times for a shed load of bikes, as you can see, over the past ten years, all that extra expense buys you roughly just under half a second across the quarter mile.
And thats comparing a ZZR (middleweight tourer) to YZFR6 (cutting edge sprtsbike)
http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_street_bike_performance_times/index.html#kawasaki

I think the main reason is that unfortunately all down to physics (IMO)

Since all these bikes have enough power to wheelie, they are all very much limited in their take-off ability, in fact the heavier bikes with more forward weight distribution are at an advantage from a standing start..

Coupled with the fact that tyre technology advances don't really help much in this department either..

Then, power wise, increasing power 20% over the last ten years is about the only factor that will reduce the 1/4 mile times, and that doesn't equate to much extra tractive force..

But that doesn't mean in the slightest that the newer bikes aren't any better, they have advanced in the handling/braking and power delivery areas.. as borne out by every improving track times..
