February 11, 2009 — The recently announced Left 4 Dead Downloadable Content (L4D DLC) will be delivered to Xbox 360 and PC gamers free of charge.

Due for release this spring, the DLC for 2008's best-selling new game property on the PC and Xbox 360, is dubbed the L4D Survival Pack and introduces a new multiplayer game mode entitled, Survival, plus two complete campaigns for Versus Mode (Death Toll, Dead Air). A Critic's Choice Edition of the game will be heading to retail stores this spring, and will include access to all the content introduced in the L4D: Survival Pack.

Left 4 Dead is a survival action game from Valve that blends the social entertainment experience of multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress with the dramatic, narrative experience made popular in single player action game classics such as the Half-Life series of games. Released in November of 2008, L4D has earned over 25 industry awards from outlets around the world.

Awesome news :)

Haven't expected anything less from valve, in my eyes the only company which properly makes pc games still. While not the prettiest games around, they provide free content over time, always make sure games run good on mainstream hardware, and support things like 16:9 and 16:10 resolutions properly, 5.1 sound properly, etc...

Another thumbs up for steam :)

ACE!

I love Valve, I'm going to sound like all the other Valve bumming people out there...But I love them.

They're games are awesome, they're content in the games is awesome, they're free updates are awesome.

Valve, are awesome.

Wonder how they got MS to give it free of charge on console

Valve make great multiplayer games and free content would bring more players on both platforms, the more people that play Left 4 Dead on the Xbox the better for Microsoft because they charge people to be able to use the multiplayer aspects of games. Plus the promise of future Valve games on the xbox as well no doubt.

What's it got to do with MS? The game is nothing to do with them, Valve can release what they want for it at whatever cost they want.

Not really, several other devs have wanted to release DLC for free (Epic and the Braid devs spring to mind) All DLC has to be signed off by MS.

All patches for xbox games must be certified by Microsoft before being put on xbox live! They want their cut if you want additional content for a game. So most DLC for windows/xbox live costs M$ points. Same way part of the xbox360 games's price goes towards M$ :p.

Well they aren't adding any new levels, characters or weapons by the sounds of it, so I'd have been pretty peeved if they were charging! Sounds more like a glorified patch

It's MS.

MS could force them to charge for DLC because MS were the publisher for the games (GOW for epic).

But left 4 dead is published by EA on XB360, so cost has nothing to do with MS.

As already mentioned DLC has to be certified by Microsoft and follow their pricing structure (nearly all themes and pictures are the same price for example)
