The Story:

I go a quick scoot over to Tamworth to drop some money off to my mate.. simple 10 mile journey.. but to kill some time me and the sister (Who was with me) decided to pop into Lichfield and grab a Pizza. We don't get to spend a lot of time together and it's nice when we actually do!

So I pull up into a car park, turn the car off and get out, and await my sister to get out.. she was just getting out (And i'd been stood there about 15 seconds) when all of a sudden I hear a great big pop.. I looked around to see if someone had had a window smashed or something then I look down at my rear windscreen to find this:

Now i've checked the car, nothings been throw/shot, and there were NO stone chips. What the hell could have caused the glass to do this?

If you look at the photo, the cracks go in 2 seperate directions all from the Wiper motor.. and the edgers are also completley seperate from the bonding at the edges.. it's really really wierd.

wasnt iced over and you poured hot water on it or anything?

was there a crack in it recently?

Good god I seriously thought that picture was of a spaceship surrounded by stars, I need more sleep.

Unlucky about the car though.

None that I was informed about when I picked the car up, and it was still +4oC when I went out.. and I never use water.. I always scrape.

just because it wasnt informed when you picked the car up, doesnt mean it hasnt happened since :p

I really don't understand how it's happened though, because there are no chips... and I would have spotted a crack when i de-iced it yesterday morning.

i had a mates car at college do this

he was wondering for months if somebody had done it deliberately, but by all accounts from people who saw it, it did just this - just smash for no rhyme or reason.

When I used to work at the garage this happened to the bodyshop oposite us twice. Nobody anywhere near the cars and the rear screens just popped out!

Unlucky mate! :(

I think that, for whatever reason the screen has been compressed and shattered.

Back in the day, it was down to the body shell making contact with the screen....

Could be on yours that the wiper has pressed the screen surrounding it!
