Multivitamins. Do you take them?

If i'm lifting hard it'll be 2 Animal Paks (not a typo :p) a day, one on my off days, they do contain 11 seperate pills though in a pack so not for everyone. Feel a big difference using them over anything else.

For zinc, try some ZMA, you'll definitely know it's working then.

Like the OP limited diet so I take them :)

Been doing so for around 2 years now and just get into the routine of it really! If it works it works!

Maybe this is just me but I'm curious, why did you buy zinc tablets if you don't know what it is meant to do for your body?

Oh and I tend to take multivitamins in the morning if I'm taking them, no idea if that is the best time or not though, assuming there is such a thing as a best time.

Well one of the main reasons is that it says its good for teeth and gums and i have the worst toothache atm thanks to good old Mr.Wisdom, it also says its good for skin, I'm a teenager(19) so that most definitely helps!

I know what wiki says :P I mean has anyone noticed any changes from taking Zinc/ Vitamin c

I always find vitamin C supplements make me feel more energized throughout the day, also if you make sure you have sufficent zinc + vit c it maintains your natural resistance to colds and stuff like that.

I highly reccomend adding a moderate amount of oily fish rich in omega-3, etc. (not supplements) to your diet a couple of times a week as they contain many nutrients that are lacking nowadays from most food stuffs you buy in the supermarket, etc.

I' am currently taking multi vitamins and Omega 3 fish oil capsules along with Dr Brandt's anti-oxidant water booster.

I usually take the vitamins and fish oil after dinner and use the water booster to wash them down with.

Haven't been ill for about 2 years now, and there have been some nasty bugs going around.

I think it's worth taking something, even if it's just for a placebo effect.

Occasionally I take Berocca: http://www.berocca.co.uk
It's like a vitamin energy drink, good for hangovers and when feeling a bit run down.

Just did a quick google search on Vitamin B17 and it doesn't look like a particularly sensible choice:

This page tells you about laetrile (also known as amygdalin or vitamin B17).....Our digestive bacteria, and the enzymes in the food we eat, break down the laetrile and release cyanide....Laetrile contains cyanide, which is a type of poison. So the side effects of laetrile are the same as those of cyanide.

I was aware of the cyanide link but also a bit more aware of how its possible to use in moderation - I'd prolly best edit my original post as on reflection its probably best not to throw something like that into the general public and assume everyone is as capable of researching or think to research it for themselves. (aside from the fact its benefits are disputed).

Don't most just pass through your system, to quote Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory, making very expensive urine?

yep - it mostly is - reality is unless you're mum is a complete **** and actually does shop at iceland for everything then a balanced diet is all you need.

still lots of people like to believe in things that have very little (if at all) evidence to support them - i.e. vitamin C prevents colds, fish oil makes you brainy, carrots help you see in the dark, you should eat lots of anti oxidants to prevent cancer, chicken soup is good when your ill, coke is good when you've got the runs etc... this sort of stuff has various origins and gets passed around as 'fact' when its mostly nonsense.

But you're missing the point.

I have a really healthy / varied diet - and I eat regularly - but I get emmense benefit from taking supplements (which could prove that I have problems metabolising particular minerals and vitamins) - Zinc in particlar.

I don't really care about the proof / evidence about them working / not working for the majority....all I know is the ones I take work - without a doubt (and are used to supplement my already good Diet)

Also, you will not be able to get things like DMAE from food easily. If you ever try taking a chemical like that - you really will find that magic can be achieved from supplements when needed.

thats great

But they're still generally a waste of money, perhpas you get a placebo effect from them or perhpas you just generally feel good about yourself after taking them. Regardless of that your singular subjective experience isn't particularly relevant anyway.

Don't take anything, don't need to. I only see the need for older people taking them tbh. Im 19 and never taken any sort of multi-vit and i've been fine. Maybe because I eat something like 12 meals a day, disgusting amounts of food haha. But other than that I reckon most of them just pass through you, like my mate had a full bottle of vit c, the orange tasting ones, i tipped it back and munched them all, nothing happened :L.

Only some pass through you, mainly B Vitamins and other water soluble ones. Your body takes what it needs then gets rid of it. So I think it's better to get too much than too little.

I take sainsburys multi vitamin drink tablet, it tastes pretty good too. Also take high dose fish oils, glucosamine, CoQ10 and magnesium malate.

I take them because I have been ill for ~ 4 years now. I'm getting better gradually and the supplements definitely do make a difference for me.
I also have an excellent nutritionist who regularly does checks and changes my dosages, etc.
CoQ10 has the biggest effect on me (I was very deficient). It pretty much stopped my heart palpitations and gave me a huge boost of energy.
Magnesium Malate helps with my muscle aches and cramps.
Fish oils and Glucosamine helps with my stiff and painful joints.

I take a multi vitamins and minerals everyday and a fizzy vitamin C (2000mg) with a pint of water after I have been out on the beer. Works wonders.

I started taking them at 16 and I now look 12.

nope, i did buy a bottle at one point, made zero difference. My diet i think is quite balance.

I eat fish at least once a week, I have fruit with yogurt for breakfast and then some more fruit some after dinner. I make sure I have lots of vegetables a few meals a week, yesterday i late a 2 people portion salad with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing and some chicken thigh.

Lunch consist of sandwiches mostly, chicken, prawn, ham, beef...etc

I have bread and rice too, once a week (either sunday or saturday) I have a 2 eggs with toasts for breakfast.

If i can find time for some exercise then i am golden :p
