why can't i change the mghz of my 22" which is at 60mghz? my 6 year old TFT could be changed from 60 - 65 - 72 - 75mghz?

I assume you mean Hz dude. 60 mghz is 60 million times a second! lol. AFAIK, its just the way TFTs, they have a set refresh rate of 60 Hz. There are new ones with 120Hz refresh rate which support 3D stuff! Im sure someone will elaborate...

You should be able to change to 75 Hz with for example 1360 x 768 resolution but for 1680x1050 or 1920x1080 the max will be 60 Hz due to bandwidth limitations.

The panel will work at 60Hz regardless - some panels "support" 75Hz but its just interpolating/dupe frames or blanking, very very few TFTs actually support true 75Hz. Your old TFT might have said it could do 75Hz but it was just using one of the above methods to "upsample" 60Hz.

Some new TFTs are coming out as someone said above that support true 120Hz.

From what I've read, 120Hz purpose is to allow 60 frames per second on each eye so motions will be smooth as silk. (Wonder how much it would cost?)

thnx for the responce! so the 17" viewsonic that i had was not telling the true hrz and was actually kicking out 60 hrz?

a lot. yeh it works by interpolating the light, alternating frames between the eyes so each eye sees 60Hz, so it doesnt "hurt" like older 3d stuff that ran on 60Hz with 30Hz in each eye.

60 Hz is pretty mich all you such need when you consider the response time of the actual LCD itself - don't forget LCDs switch on or off whereas the old CRT used scanline technology which was more affected by the screen refresh
