*XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB inc FREE Company of Heroes @ £159.99+VAT*

Whoo, mine got delivered today. Awesome thing it is. It plays everything I've thrown at it on maximum settings with the maximum AA and AF each in-game menu allows so far (not tried Crysis as yet :p) at 1680x1050 (my monitor's native res) very chuffed with it. Aesthetically it's really nice, too, compared to the old GeForce 8800 GTS 320, not that that matters too much of course, what with the black PCB and red cooler and such, it certainly goes well with the rest of my PC. It's definitely the nicest packaged card I've ever received too (my old HIS IceQ X1650 Pro comes in second on that one), which is nice in its own rights. The only downside to the card is when you turn on the PC it half gives you a heart attack - sounds like the thing's about to take off! It's pretty quiet once it's settled down, though. Idle temps are a little high at 78C, but then it loads at 80C so it doesn't really matter all that much. It doesn't seem to get noticeably louder at load, either, which is good.

Oh, but I couldn't try it with Company of Heroes because it seems to be slightly not here, which is disappointing. To the customer service forum, I suppose.

much between this and a nvidia 260 at a similar price point? On a 512MB 4850 currently but using 1920x1080 tests it a bit on certain titles.....

@Lightnix - i glad to hear the card is performing well, i too was impressed with the packing! Also i didn't get the copy of COH either as my card was delivered yesterday.

Anyone who has not gotten the game with their card please just drop a support forum message in order queries and I will get a copy sent out for you. :)

Slight issue in our warehouse on the first batch that came from the supplier. Sorry for any trouble caused but I will get any games out in the post pronto if they are missing.

Apart from ripping the cooler off everything looks standard. :)

XFX are new to the ATI game and are just using standard designs across the range.

The only real manufacturer to do weird and wonderful stuff with the cards is Sapphire, other manufacturers such as Pallit and Gainward have done aftermarket coolers but most manufacturers stick to the reference design.

Must say the XFX packaging is superb, best presented card I have seen in a long long time.

Which 4870x2 / gtx295 cards that you have are reference boards Yewen?

I want to buy a Koolance waterblock when I decided which one I want to get.

Thanks,

RoEy

Majority of the cards we stock are reference PCB of both series, all 295 cards at the moment are the same design.

4870 X2 all the usual suspects are reference designed. :)

Thanks for info Yewen. The ASUS 4870 X2 isn't reference though is it?

I'm interested in the XFX 4870 X2 but I was wondering why it's a bit cheaper than the others. Would you enlighten me?

Thanks,

RoEy

XFX are new to the ATI game and want to get their products in stock at OcUK. Got a good deal on the cards and instead of making some more money and pricing them up with the other 4870 X2 cards we have passed the saving on, hence the cheaper price.

Reference card with amazing packaging.

Yeah I know it's their first ATI card just didn't realise why they were cheaper. I think I'll be buying this next Thursday. What feedback have you had so far with regards to how they are performing / temps etc.?

Thanks,

RoEy
