Hi there,

I'm in the market for getting a large screen plasma. Originally I did always think I would get a Samsung, but seen so many mixed opinions about them I think I will stay clear from them. Everyone seems to recommend the Panasonics being superior and because of that I think I will go down that route.

Are the Panasonic's normally reliable, because I seem to be able to get some good deals around the 1k mark but only comes with a 1 year warranty - unless im looking at the wrong websites. I dont really want to have to pay for the extra warranty unless its really worth having.

Would be great to hear peoples views and tips on this panel.

:)

I have this tv and i love it. Had it a round 3/4 months now. It was my 1st plasma and was worried at first because of what i read about screen burn and stuff.

I intially was going to go down the LCd route to be "on the safe side" but thank god people like -Ad- filled me in and convinced me that Plasma was the route to go and the PZ80 was the doggys curlies!

I have to say that i've never had any screen burn. Sometimes the same channel (with logo) is kept on for 6-7hrs a day and it has not done it any harm. Yes, there is a 5-10min period where there is a ghost image of the logo left on the screen but that is temporarely and goes away after 5-10min.

Defo run the TV in for a period of 200hrs or so using the settings over at AVForums ("Cinema"). They are so good that im still using them and so are many many who are doing the same.

I would defo recommend it. I have 2 Panny's and i have nothing but praise for them!

I had seen them for that price although I have no idea if they are still available, I can't remember the site unfortunately, as it was whilst I was looking at the 42" model. Sorry I can't help further than that.

these are excellent tv's, had mine about 2 weeks and I'm loving it

looks huge at first and kind of worrying that its just too big but after a day or two of watching I don't think I would be happy to go smaller ever again

love mine, though i must be the only person who doesnt like cinema mode. it increases the black level on my set which really defies the point of buying the tv in the first place lol

Great tv and well worth the money - try and search out 5 year warranty I think they are available til the end of Jan (it was Dec but extended a few weeks so I heard)

Was going to get this a couple of months ago, but decided to go for the Pioneer 5090 instead (unfortunately for you the Pio is around 75% more)

Just bought a KRP-500a which is even more.

But if i couldnt have afforded the pioneer the panasonic would be my 2nd choice
I'm coming from a px600 panasonic plasma.
I also used to be a panasonic service agent. and because of that had experience of repairing them. and whilst they are more reliable than most thats only half the story the other half is getting it repaired and pan are the best for backup.

So your telling me you can get them for 1k, 5 year warranty including del?

Yep, from 2 places (actually £1099 but close enough)

You can google it, on the first page of results of the Google Shopping thing. £999 with 1 year, £1099 with 5 year. The second place is a department store, which will price match that.

The 46" isnt looking bad at £770 from some places that I assume co-operative with cost. Avforums has a specific review on that model that probably applies to the 50 aswell.

Will be interesting to see what the Neo PDP comes in at as there seriously lower power consumption.

Any reason to get pics of your setup photoshop, just because it looks awesome and really smart :D:D:D:D:D

Little off topic, but where did you get that cable hiding twizzler white thingy from, I need to do the same but cannot remember where I last saw one online ?

Scoobie, these sets were under £1k just after xmas, although they might cost a little more now. Definately go for one with a 5yr warranty, I recommend a certain department store that also has a posh supermarket as part of it ;) The 46 is excellent value though, but watch out as tvs shrink with age, next thing you will want to satify your sizing needs will be a 92 inch screen and a projector :D
