Im building a PC for my bro, and his remaining budget is £40.

He has the following build.

(Intel Q6600 Quad Core)
Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L iP35
4GB OCZ PC2-6400 RAM
250GB SATA HDD

Probably looking around 500-550w PSU? What do you think?

You won't get a decent 500W for £40. The general rule is

(Wattage divided by 10) + 10
And then +10 more for modular, and ignore for biiig wattages.

So a 500W should be about £60 for anything worth having, that seapower for £57 is something of a bargain.

What else is he running in this system, i.e. graphics card? Is the Q6600 overclocked? You may find out you don't need 500-550W, as £40 won't really get you one. You can get a decent 400W PSU though for that money though

As above you need to stretch the budget to £50-£60 for a more powerful PSU. I would stress that you don't skimp on the PSU, you want a decent make that will be reliable.

Graphics card: 7800GT
G6600 will be overclocked probably but only to about 2.6Ghz - 3.00Ghz probably?

Do you think I could get away with a 450W psu then? the pc is being used for video editing.

A QUALITY 450w would be enough. The rig in my siggy plus 2x sata ll hdds, sata dvdrw, multifunction controller and 5 fans draw 274w max load at the wall. That's with Orthos and Fur stability test running at the same time.

Cool, thank you :)
