A House Cat?

Why is it cruel!?!?...

Don't take it personally, it's not an attack on you. I'm sure your cats are much loved, very happy and any home is better than no home but I feel a cat is a free animal that should enjoy the freedom of outside to hunt, prowl, and generally enjoy everything 'outside' brings.

I can see your point!!... But...

It all boiled down to what I saw in our local Vet window, about 8 'Missing Cat' posters and 2 'Found Cat' posters (one of which was dead)..

Then reading in the local rag about what some local Scum are doing to wandering Cats (skinning their tails etc... for fun!!)..

And I live close to some very busy roads!!..

Here's my two anyway seeing as though we are pimping them.

Its actually nice here in Swindon... Just avoid 'Pen Hill, Toot Hill, Park North, Park South and parts of Freshbrook and Westlea...

unfortunately Abbey Meads (where I live) is a stones throw from Pen Hill and easy 'Cat' walking distance!!...

Granted the 'Tail Skinning' Incidents (yes more than one!!) happened about 3 years ago and not since... but I don't want to take that risk!!..

You could get injured using your PC typing this.

It is a good thing your monther doesn't deem it "unsafe" and lock you in a small metal box just in case.

Sorry but I just think it is very cruel to keep an animal inside that if it knew the truth would want to go outside.

So a cat got its tail skinned 3 years ago, people die in car crashes every day and a whole load of things are more dangerous , you still go to work / school in one, yes?

infact I know this Austrain guy that keeps his kid in the basement, probably doesn't want them to get hurt. :)

Funny how two of our cats aren't interested in going outside at all really. I used to think the same as you when I had outdoor cats, I was ignorant.

Why don't you suggest going the whole hog and force them to hunt/find their own food?

So why don't these people have cat flaps? give the cat the choice. don't lock it up for years, give it a brief view of outside and when it gets a bit cautious assume it doesn't want to go out.

I don't force them to hunt but if they want they can, if they dont then they dont. Giving them the option is the best way.

I have had atleast 1 cat all my life. I am like the Cat whisperer. :)

I've had cats for 20 years and every single one of them (my Mum had 7 at one point :/) has been an outdoors cat. Including the Siamese we had.

If we try and keep Flo in she goes mad after a while. We kept her in at first and slowly started letting her out into the garden for half an hour at a time and now she does as she pleases pretty much.
She never stays out for very long though, unless we are outside working in the garden or on the cars.

Nowhere sensible we can put a cat flap in our house. Parents don't fancy taking out a huge chunk of wall in an akward place for it.
They've just learnt to come and ask us if they can go out :p

I've had cats the whole 35 years of my life as well, currently have three. As I said I've never had indoor cats before but I can honestly say that the three we have now are the happiest and friendliest ones I've ever owned. They are let out very often when we're around but as explained only one of them ever really bothers going out, and then just to eat a bit of grass and sit down. The other two might amble out if they feel like it or it's sunny or something.

So long as they have the choice then it's ok. I think my cats wouldv'e cracked up if they couldn't go out exploring. They only really come in to eat and sleep.

Ahh right, I didn't realise I was conversing with an idiot. Never mind.

It was a joke. Do you have a sense of humor? I often find people who like being cruel to animals don't have one. And I would desist the personal insults.

All I am saying is it is cruel to keep an animal locked up, would you like it? no you wouldn't, so don't do it to another person or animal.

Simple.

You're right.

I meant to say

LOLOLOLOL!!!!! LITTER TRAY FETISH!!! HAHAHAHA MY SIDES!!!!!! YOU ARE THE NEW FRANKIE BOYLE!!!!!111111 :D

it just seems really odd to me that is all, you are depriving the cat of something good and on top of that you have to smell it's poo, watch it poo and empty it.

All I want are a few reasons why this is a good idea.
