6 weeks to go

Are you intending to put big miles on this car? It would be a crying shame for such a competent Grand Tourer to become a garage queen. It needs to make frequent trips to Southern European destinations.
This car will be no garage queen. I'm already planning a trip to the Ferrari factory. They do free factory tours by the way. The only criteria is that you must own a Ferrari :D

For me there can only be one colour for a Ferrari, so I knew it had to be red or Rosso Corsa to be precise as there are other reds.

Here's the rest of the spec.

F1 gearbox
Brake calipers in Rosso Corsa
"Scuderia Ferrari" shields on front wings
20" Monolithic Rims
Nero leather with red stitching
Full electric Recaro seats
"Daytona" style sports seat trim
Matching luggage set
Matching rear shelf bags
Cascade telematic navigation system
Bose Hi-Fi
Front and rear parking sensors
Electrochromatic rear view mirror
Leather roof lining

It'll look a lot like this one :-
All that and a Bose hifi :/.

And Ferrari's..well meh. Get a DB5 :p.

Yes I'm very jealous.

It's the standard stereo (poor) or the Bose (better). There's no other choice and I'm not having anyone pull my car apart.

I wouldn't have a modern Aston if you paid me.

Nice choice Spie, I hope it isn't a mid life crisis though :D

Will look forward to the pics :)

I do like the 599's, but I'd personally have a 430 Scuderia.

I don't get this. How can you compare the two? One is a hardened track day animal and the other one is a high performance GT car.

They still tend to break a bit too much, don't they? (modern astons)

The AMV8 had more than its fair share of electrical gremlins but nearly all of these were sorted with the newer ones. But the only Aston you can really compare to the 599 is the modern DBS. Which I haven't heard of anybody having any serious problems that couldn't be sorted with a trip to the local dealership.

Why don't you like them ?
Everytime I look inside an Aston I think Ford. Ford switchgear and an interior that is very unremarkable. No class at all. Just another generic interior.

They do look good from the outside but the Jaguar XK shares too many design cues.

Aston's fastest car - the DBS - actually isn't that impressive performance wise, for its class. Its 6.0L V12 engine has ample power at 510BHP but that's only 3HP more than an M5 and 119HP less than a 599. 0-60 is 4.3s compared to 4.7s for the M5 and 3.5s for the 599. Aston seem more preoccupied with image than performance. At this level you should have both and for £160K I'd expect a lot more.

I think it boils down to the fact that I don't think they are special enough. This might sound a bit blase but when you've owned a few fast cars you become more difficult to please and you see the flaws whilst others drool. This is the case with Aston.

They do sound awesome though.

Was the 599 what you had your heart set on Spie? or did you just fancy a Ferrari?

Don't mean that being funny, genuinely curious :)

I've always longed for a 599 but never had the chance to drive one until this year. No, the Ferrari badge wasn't the draw for me. Experiencing a truly incredible driving experience did the trick. I cannot think of a single car that exists that is more capable performance wise without a serious disadvantage as a result. The closest is the 911 Turbo, especially if it becomes available with PDK.

Oddly enough I drove a Bentley Continental GT Speed on the same day and hated it. Great cars but no passion and far too heavy.
