Ello,

I just ordered meself a Sandisk titanium flash drive and was wondering what you guys put on yours. I know theres a u3 Firefox and openoffice, is there any other good proggys like free antivirus, spyware, picture viewing and stuff like that?

Ta guys:)

I received my Sandisk Cruzer Micro 16GB today. It came with the U3 software you mentioned, but there wasn't anything in it that appealed to me.

I promptly uninstalled the U3 software, and installed the PortableApps Suite. I have added the OpenOffice suite, JKDefrag, 7-Zip, GIMP, VLC Portable amongst others.

The suite, as well as additional applications can be found at:
http://www.portableapps.com

It's free by the way.

When you plug the Sandisk drive in for the first time, it will ask you to either:

1. Install the U3 software onto your drive
2. Remove the U3 software from your drive (removes the CD Drive that U3 set-up, you'll see what I mean)
3. 'Ask me later'

By all means, try the software out, it might be what you are looking for. But for me, PortableApps has everything and more that I need.

One of the best things about U3 drives is the ability to 'emulate' CD/DVD drives. You can 'burn' any ISO and as far as the PC is concerned its a DVD. Great for Netbooks. Theres plenty of guides around on how to do this.

As for portable software... use Portable Apps. I didnt like the U3 apps much, Firefox is version 2, whereas Portable Apps is 3.

If you mean the U3 menu, then you double click the CD drive in My Computer/Explorer which has been created by the U3 suite.

If you mean the PortableApps menu, you simply double click the system-tray icon.

Have you get a link to hand, would be interested in this as I have an 8GB U3 Cruzer.

Also, slightly OT but is there any difference between the U3 Cruzer and the U3 Cruzer Readyboost besides the obvious, do they have different read/write speeds?

This is what I currently use: http://u3community.com/viewtopic.php?p=6116#6116

Theres also: http://usb.smithtech.us/projects/sandiskinst.php

Theres also a 3rd party program http://www.u3community.com/viewtopic.php?t=434 but be careful, make sure you replace the u3custom.iso because it contains some hacking tools. I've used the program itself and it works perfectly fine with other ISO's etc, it just doesnt seem to work in Vista/Win7.
