F.E.A.R 2, The official thread.

The wall crawlers had me turning around every second because of their sound.

I used slow mo and didn't have a problem with that but still, **** myself on many occasions.

only been playing a couple of hours but seems good...will wait to play in the dark for the full scary effect.

I am getting lots of stuttering and games a lot aswell, bit of a pain really, dunno if it is due to the 9.1s, windows 7 or the game.
The stuttering makes it almost unplayable.

I swear I must be playing a different game. I think its actually a step back from the original, the orignal FEAR felt great and had a solid feel, the guns aand movement on this one seems to be so "floaty" and It does really feel like its been dumbed down for console.

The AI seems dumber this time, they seem to sometimes have a death wish, I swear the first FEAR they used the cover better. The flipping of cover is alos totally pointless where it could have been used much better.

The grain is really ******* me off, it worked for L4d but tbh it just makes the graphics look hazy and Im missing the clean sharpness of the 1st. Yes they have made some things look bettter (the colour palettes been improved) but some things look worse. The guns dont feel the same and Im not getting the same feel of the penetrator which I used to love using.

And as for the letterboxing enough said lol

ive just got to where ur on roof and that plane goes over your head! ive only jumped once up to yet and that was right at the beginning where your in that cargo with your team

really enjoying it though

I disabled Catalyst A.I and the stuttering went away (except for the auto-saving). My FPS shot up as well. Can't really see a difference in quality either.

I imagine the next version of Catalyst drivers will have optimisations for this game (or even a hotfix).

Doesn't this disable one card on a 4870x2, mind you expect it still runs fine even with my high AA settings. 4aa, 16as 1920x1200.
I will give it a try, see how it performs.

I agree with you. I played some of the original this morning and it's so much more enjoyable. The combat is perfect and all they really needed to do to ensure this sequel was good was keep it the same, with I suppose some more varied environments.

Does seem a bit consoley, guys are way easier to kill etc..., in the first one when they used to hide, they only used to stick their guns out and that, and they used to run all over the place in different directions firing at you to get to cover, but in this one, they just pop themselves out from cover so you can pick them off, and if they are running about, they are not firing at you, so you just give em a quick burst and they dead, as they dont try running in different directions to get to cover, they just keep the same path, so they just run onto your bullets.

Wonder if thats why they took the lean out as well, as theres no need for it in this one, theres many a time they've gone to cover behind an upturned table and just sat there doing nothing waiting for you move, but with their heads sticking out you don't have to, you just kill em.

I think it does.

I like this game, I find the combat a little harder, I'd say the A.I. is a bit better than in the first game. The sound still is excellent, I think sound doesn't always get the credit it deserves. I, too am not over keen on the grain effect. The letterbox doesn't really bother me much. The graphics are some of the best around, better visuals overall than Fallout3 imo.
Early stages in the game but probably a 9/10 so far.

It seems to run better for sure, with 2aa and 16as get a steady 60 fps, will try 4x AA see if it is near to 60 or not.

Yeah, the sound is good - especially the Assault Rifle, which sounds very meaty.

Anyone know how to remove the 60fps frame cap?

I'm guessing it's V-Sync that's capping the FPS to 60, so get rid of V-Sync and you'll get higher.

Unfortunately i cannot turn V-Sync off because my ATI CCC won't open, from what I've seen there is no V-Sync option in game either.

Ive had no problems with it running at all very very smooth game play still a bit easy. Dont no the FPS but will go see if i can find out

Help please im suck on Mission 04: Withdrawal

Just as you start this part a soilder is already inside the lift but when i run toward him he closes the door and goes up. Now i cant reach him in time so i get trapped ....the explosion then kill me. I tried shooting him at distance (if i get any closer it triggers the solider to go up) .....this is a walkthrough quote

2Though the screen will shake violently, there are no enemies around. Simply head towards the elevator and hail it. Then, get on the elevator and take it above ground to continue with the next leg of our mission"

doesnt do it for me?????

Not quite unplayable but I agree it does spoil the immersion a fair bit! I'll try disabling Catalyst A.I as suggested and see if it helps

Does this apply to a 4850x2 as well? bit of a bugger after shelling out hard earned cash!!;)

If I could get rid of the freezing when the game auto-saves I wouldn't have a single thing to complain about.

Yeah, again it spoils the immersion. I still can't bind anything to the two side buttons on my MX518 which is a bit of a pain. Would have though they might have sorted that out from Demo to now.

Seems a sweet game though. I was looking forward to a game with that makes you jump!
