Bear with me! My girlfriend's mother works for Waitrose. I was in an o2 store a while back and the guy in there was saying there's a variety of companies that enable their employees to get a 30% discount from o2. Waitrose being one of them. Apparently she can get some sort of 'open code' which she can use 5 times a year to get the discount for friends or family. Given i'm currently in my upgrade period with T-Mobile, and my girlfriend is also looking for a new contract.. we're very interested. Problem being her mother is not the quickest off the mark when it comes to these things. Also, she's up north whereas i live in London. Are we going to be able to do it without her mother having to be with us to start up the contracts?

Thanks for any pointers or explanations! :)

if it's anything like the way it gets done at my work, it needs to be approved by her manager and she would need to be there at the time

Why don't you ask your gf's mother to find out for you? - She should be able to ask her mates at work...
Well we've set her on the case but ot be honest she's just a bit useless and not bothered! It's not exactly her priority. I'm thinking if i can just do the legwork to find out exactly what we need to do then it might actually happen!

Ok your right about the 30% discount from o2.....

o2 staff from there call centers and even in the shop were driving me bonkers with this supposedly "open code" or discount code which then gets patched thru as a "friends and family discount" instead.

Pretty much a whole leap of confusment.

I sorted out my o2 30% discount this week but not without a little headache, they too asked me straight away about the open code and I told them twice I wish I knew it but my manager has not heard of such a thing....

It might be worth your asking if she can ask her friends/collegues or manager for the open code, apparantly if there is one you will get it texted too you "somehow" and then u show the code too o2 and get the 30% discount.

Still confused... well I was untill I read most companies dont have such a code ! so if a o2 store member ask for a code and your gf mother hasnt heard of such a code ask the store member at o2 too call "Staff Accounts" alternativly you can call them and ask them yourself: 0870 444 6492.

For me since I work for DSG they said oh there is no code once I told them to ring staff accounts so they said I can do the 30% for you ;) from that point on I stopped sweating.

Only bad thing is u gotta take out a new contract or simplicity and make sure the 30% discount is applied at point of sale and not after.
Apparantly it can be applied too existing contracts but that depends on if u get a decent o2 staff member ;)

I got myself an o2 simplicity chip with 1600 minutes/1600 text and web bolt on for 21 quid per month thats with the 30% discount shame I got no phone too use it lol

HighlandeR thanks for the info but i am stil slightly confused. Let me get this right;

First step: Ask the girlfriend's mother to ask her manager for an 'open code' for o2. If they know nothing about it, then she can call that number to ask for one? (Surely this is just easier?) If so, how does she prove that she's eligible? And then, when she gets that code she can just give it to me and i can start a contract with it?

Also could you link me to a contact page with that Staff Accounts number on? I just want to verify it before i get her to start ringing :D

Yeah you can still give staff accounts a call they will confirm if she can get it, and even sometimes they can process the whole thing over the phone. They will ask for last months wage slip as proof though so you may have to fax/email a copy over as proof. Id assume if she dont know about the access code that there is none just like theres none for DSG employeers.

From what I can see about staff discounts it might be just a case of the staff member doing it, I dont know if it can be family or friends doing the discount but if worst comes too worst surely one can do it under there name and pay for it on there own card.... When I did mine I gave my wage slip and was sorted in store, and he said u can get upto 8 sims so id assume it can be done for friends/family :)

Why would you get discount for working for waitrose and the DGS group?

30% discount ?

pretty good imo, am getting 1600 mins/1600 text for 21 quid on o2 simplicity chip but gotta get my own handset :)

I am now thinking I shoulda just got a contract and phone too boot but tis cool will just hunt around for a iphone or 5800 or something on the cheap, I just thought for the minutes/text its nice not having too worry about how long your on the phone or how many text u send :)

I'm interested in getting this, as my uncle can get a code , working for the bbc. To anyone who has used the code, can it be used online? The site I want to buy my n96 from has at checkout a space to enter a discount code.

I'm pretty sure it has to be bought from an O2 store. I was able to get a code through my work and my sister used it to get an iphone, I went with her but they never asked me for proof of my employment.

oh dear, the N96 costs a fortune from 02 themselves :( :(

Also, can it be used with other cashback offers?

Thanks

cant use it on simplicity plans im being told??? is that true?

They can I got mine earlier this week, DSG employee and they gave me 30% discount on my o2 simplicity chip and said they can do it on up to 8 sims. Am paying £21 per month for 1600 minutes and 1600 text and free web bolt on.

Which I think its stunning... just gotta find a decent fone.

So what are the chances of me walking into an o2 store with a photocopy of my girlfriend's mother's payslip and opening an account with the discount? :)
