I just discovered vista voice recognition and it is a great, I'm using it as I speak or you read and it has doubled my productivity I can type endlessly without any effort as I don't have to type I just have to talk normally if you haven't started to use it yourself then you should do so

This only took me about 3 seconds

I've given it a good go before, but I still just went back to mouse/keyboard. Can't be bothered talking to my computer really :p

I did notice that Microsoft cheated a bit on the demonstration page, you can almost mumble the words and it'll say that it recognised them. ;)

yeah the demo is a cheat but it still works fine outside that, it has its place and will never replace the keyboard, just as an art pad/tablet will never fully replace the mousee (but its closer) for a long document or note taking i think it will be awesome! especialy as next year i go into a levels, coursework and essays will be a dodle just hope i dont forget its an essay and talk in a normal voice rather than "essay language" as my crazy but fun english teacher says

Voice recognition would be brilliant for note taking if it could pick up everybody in a meeting/lecture :)

I don't have a mic otherwise I'd try it, apparantly the Manchester accent isn't well supported by voice recognition software. :D

Whn I played with it about a year or so ago I found after a while it somehow "broke" all the views of folders. For example, the games explorer folder would display tiny icons in detail view, when I had set it to the large icons, when I switched it large, if I opened "Computer", all the icons in there would change too. I also found it rather pointless and boring after a short while due to it not understanding correctly what had been said, it is faster using a keyboard and mouse.

Folders breaking like that is just a Vista feature :p - happens all the time :(

I usually just use a registry fix & put all my folders to one view.

Ah yeah, I remember that one :p

Surely you could also record yourself saying a set of commands that will delete some documents on one of those portable tape player things & play it back by the microphone of someone in your office. :p
