Businesses immune from the recession

Debt management firms unfortunately.
Receivers/liquidators/administrators/bailiffs must be pretty busy at the moment.

Yeah was reading the other week somewhere about how small businesses are suffering becasuse all the debt collectors were only working for the big players giving them large amounts and they won't touch small amounts just now.

How?
People have less money to spend on entertainment.

People will always have money to spend it's just what they get for it, night in with a take out and a DVD is a hell of a lot cheaper then a night out and a taxi fare. Same with computer games, xbox game for £30 will give you about two weeks soild play,, maybe more if you enjoy the XBL.

Yes, exactly. People will be spending less money by staying in doing things at home.
That will effect the entertainment industry, so they are not immune.

Well, no it won't in the sense you think, people want entertainment, where previosuly people went out now they will stay at home, that's viewing for the TV channels which means more money from advertisers, so expect better programming and more films.

Regulated industries and associated companies will have a certain income protected. Companies like water companies (Scottish Water etc) once they have there spending budget agreed normally have a 4 year Financial period, as such the spending is fairly fixed thoughout that period and thus companies that work for them have a fairly protected income.

Supermarkets, especially the bargain brand ones

just lost my job from Tesco after 9 months, signing on the Dole this week, no other supermarkets are employing even those with experience. Short staffed and moral low in a lot of stores as the company is cutting corners everywhere, no overtime for over a year now, no chance of a GA job unless new store in your area is opening, so no not recession proof.

The entrainment industry is far from immune.

I personally work in the film industry and there are redundancies in my own company, not to mention entire businesses have already shut down in London, especially ones which are owned by American organizations.
