With Street Fighter 4 coming our way soon I'm very keen to get a pad, however I'm very aware that getting a decent, SNES like D-pad is probably going to be tricky (xbox pad for this game isnt even an option)

Are there any pads out there that will fit the bill?

Quite possibly - I haven't used it.

It also depends on whether you prefer to play your SF games on a joystick or joypad. Personally I grew up playing on the SNES so a joypad is better for me. I know lots of purists would disagree though :)

Search around import or auction sites for a USB version of the Sega Saturn pad, argubaly the best pad for 2D games of any sort, and perfect button layout for Street Fighter games. Just be prepared to pay a premium for these as they are quite rare.

I really don't get the difference between different pads for a game like Street Fighter. Sure, you're using shoulder buttons that arent lined up like in the arcades, but that's like any other game where you've reconfigured the controls surely?

I can only imagine a snes/xbod pad being unplayable if you've been playing exclusively at the arcades, and keep pressing thin air when you do fierce attacks on a joypad with shoulder buttons.

If you were to say get a arcade joystick controller, then i'd understand since the difference is huge. (i've embarassed myself before at the aracades, can barely even do a quarter circle special move :()

I have PS2 joypad with converter and 360 Wireless pad. I love the PS2 pad design but the 360 Pad has no wires and most games are pre-configured :D

whats the crack with this on pc.is there going to be peeps with combos just configured to one key? so i block then unleash a ten hit combo by just pressing one button. anyone know?

That's something that can be done with any game on the PC with 3rd party software. You'd be vulnerable if the start of the combo missed until you cancelled it.

the analogue saturn pad for me was the best pad ever made and sony and microsoft have both tried to copy it but failed.

I would say just get the xbox 360 pad purely because it is so well supported. I know you can map the joypad for games but it's just easier to plug it in and play !

Ive got both a 360 pad and PS2 pad with a converter.

The 360 pad is collecting dust, it just isn't as comfortable and easy to use as the PS2 pad for me and I still have yet to find a game that I cant play with it.

Others will prefer the 360 pad, but any one out of those 2 will be better than any other offering on the market.

They're both good at different things. Analogue - 360 pad, dpad - ps2 pad.

PS2 pad with a converter. Best Dpad available these days :)

If you think a PS2 pad is better than a 360 then you're mad. Not only is the 360 about 10x more ergonomic and comfortable in the hands (seriously it's proven, and it's won awards for it), but the functionality/quality is also much better. Overall it's a MILES better purchase... i've used both for my PC for quite a while :)

Try reading all of my posts.

I have quite a large selection of pads and they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Notice that in the post you quoted I said "best Dpad available". The dpad on the ps2 pad is massively, HUGELY superior to the dpad on the 360 and if you're playing a game that primarily uses the dpad for control, the ps2 pad is a better choice. If you want analoge controls then it's a different matter entirely.
