Virgin media is pure awesomeness !!!

i have to say - my vm 20 meg seems to be getting better now compared to a few months ago.

I can often get 2.3 megabytes per sec in utorrent! Shame about the caps / throttling but it hardly ever affects me really.

GTFO Marv :( lol
Nice ping, I changed to miadenhead to run a test rather than the default ireland one.

Try > THIS < speedtest instead, it's hosted within the NTL network. I've had Speedtest throw up a few dodge results in the past. Also, how come you're not selected London as the server on Speedtest.net?

Daveyp - I'm pretty sure everything from the modem outwards is the property of Virgin Media, so it could potentially cause problems if you have to call an engineer out and they spot it. I know someone that got grilled by an engineer because he changed the cabling between the modem and the wall box.

Whilst Usenet is a good way to measure your maximum throughput, Speedtests represent your download speed on a single file which is what most people use.

Usenet clients can let you configure up to 30-40 simultaneous connections which explains why you get better results since they can pretty much saturate whatever connection you have.

The BBMAX speedtest is usually fairly accurate but you should always do a few tests. The Virgin Speedtest also seems fairly accurate so far.

The good quality job would give it right away!!!

I was given about 24" of cable from the wallbox to the CM.
I asked the engineer if how I do about getting a longer piece as I originally wanted the wallbox in the loft (where my office is) and I couldnt as I needed to have told VM in advance so they could get a 2 man team out. I was advised to "try ******s". Is it definately from the modem back of from the wallbox??

I like Virgin, but in the past month my TV and modem keep going down, but the other 2 v+ boxes in the house are fine.

My broadband speed is good....

= 9.75 Mbps [Megabit-per-second]

I have the main wire coming in the house, which is split at the bottom of the stairs, one wire goes to the main V+ downstairs. The other wire comes up the stairs into my room which is split again. One going to the modem, other going to the V+. They keep flashing offline and i cant understand why? Is there too many splits ? If i take out the splitter in my room, and wire the TV direct, it connects up and seems to be fine. So either theres too many splits in the wire, or the spiltter in my room is faulty.

Contact VM, it sounds like the signal is too weak for the number of devices or the splitter isn't working properly/is damaged (it's possible it was set up and was fine originally, but a change in the levels at the street box are causing problems).

Thanks, will contact them,

My V+ is flashing now, all the channels work, but the on demand is offline. The other 2 V+ boxes are fine.

EDIT - Would seem my signal is low. Tech booked for tomorrow :)

Well i am glad you like virgin, i escaped to them in this shared house finally to get away from an extremely poor adsl my landlord had with madasafish and.....

....its utter tripe. Completely useless for my gaming needs. Unless i want to play at something like 4am i can forget anything needing a good ping like quake. Connections fluctuate constantly to 999 no matter what server i join. Gaming is just not possible on this 10meg virgin cable.

Disappointed as when i had cable a couple years ago it was spot on. Suffice to say that when move into my new shared house in september we have already ruled out virgin and will be getting BeThere/O2 broadband.
