Was cut up today in lane two by a 3rd lane merger... scared hell of me and went to show my displeasure by hitting horn, nothing, so had to resort to 'the bird' (again ;), I'm sorry, but he almost removed my kneecap :( )

Guess the cold weather has taken its toll and my horn is kaput... so looking around for a replacement for bike found these little babys..

http://www.intobikes.co.uk/products?detail=product&st=mn&id=002647

Done a quick search on ebay and found same thing £20 quid delivered... has anyone else had experience of these compact twin air horns or similar ?, I've had enough of the pathetic buzz from bike horns so hoping this will do better.

Not quite as loud as train horns some people use, but can't find space to fit them :) ... will post up fitting piccys and video of them going off, fingers crossed they aint junk.

Small writeup on them..

Popular mod on my vfr forum, but most people go with the Stebel Magnum, its compact enough, no need for a relay (Nautilus will) and about 140dba is plenty loud enough! Oh and it will cost you about a tenner.

The volvo I've got had a 5-horn airhorn fitted. It failed its MOT on it and I had to cut the loop and fit a normal horn.

Yes but you also welded up the doors and painted The General Lee on its roof :D

Got to get something for my car as its louder if i shout at people! What can you recommend?

Sorry for jumping into your thread Flukester.

hmmm, dam didn't think of current draw... I'll have to buy a relay then, just makes job longer :(

edit: scratch that, I'll sling relay on existing wires to my old OEM horn and just run live / neutral from battery, job should be a goodun. Draws 18A @ 12v ouch

 no?

All I would say is make sure your compressor can make the airhorns run instantaenously off pressing the horn button. This was the reason for the MOT failure.

Nautilus comes with one afaik, but personally I'd go with the magnum.

think your right seems a better choice, but this one on order so I'll just go with it... if it comes with a relay then I'm happy, will makes things easier.

it's maybe abit big, but I'll squeeze it in somewhere im sure..

Flukestar this sounds like an excellent idea. Even for a bicycle. I get really annoyed there is no way I can let someone know they just cut me off etc. Plus, it seems like a great safety feature to me.

Is there something that is not electric one can use on a push bike?

guess you can find one that runs off a air cannister, or a Lithium battery pack could take that kinda draw in bursts.. would certainly be a shock to see a push bike sounding something like that :)

If you were crazy enough to fit one to a push bike a 14.8v (will need to be at least 10C for 18a) RC lipo pack could power one, probably wouldn't be much over 10>15 quid on ebay and be pretty light and compact.

Another good tip for any bikers with limited room and don't fancy fitting a relay is to go for some dual diaphragm horns that way you can use more than a single tone, see: http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product/257

Guy on the vfr forum actually replaced his stebel horn with this setup being more compact but found the dual tone was more striking anyway.

I love the idea of this just for comedy. :D

After my exams I'll have a look at it.

Used to have a pair of airhorns on my old Passat estate, nothing special just a £15 Halfords jobby that was much cheaper than a proper Passat horn from a scrappy or VW.

Was great fun scaring the taxi drivers in Aylesbury who liked to ignore lane markings on roundabout exits, instead attempting to drive into the side of you, though one of them swerved away so hard he ended up hitting the curb quite hard. Oops.

Got a nautilus on my 1150GS, used to have a magnum but it is puny compared to the nautilus.

Relays should be included but a few I have fitted have come without them in the packaging for some reason. No problems as they are only cheap.

Nautilus cheaper from HERE though.

Did it play a tune?

Your car's audible warning device is only allowed to make one noise, additional devices do count.

Multiple horns is OK, so long as they all sound at once.
