I know there's a thread regarding this only a few pages back, but in terms of performance, at 1920x1200 with AA and AF, which card tends to excel?

I've looked at many reviews and articles comparing both cards, and with the latest 9.1 drivers it does seem as if the 4870 X2 is pulling ahead of the GTX295 at that resolution, especially when utilising AA and AF.

Which would you go for?

If your into folding then GTX295 :)

But if only for gaming and at the price differince i would get the x2. It might be a few % slower then the GTX295 but at the price is a big factor.

Having owned both a single X2 & a single 295 (gaming at 1920*1200), I've got to say.....295, Everytime!!

Also, having owned 2 X2's in CF & 2 295's in Quad-Sli, I've got to say......295, Everytime!!!

However, if money is an issue (why are you even considering paying hundreds of pounds for graphics card??) go with the X2.

Edit: Nvidia have just released new drivers btw

Why do you say the 295 over the 4870x2, is it simply performance, or other factors as well?

How are the new drivers?

The only reason to go for a GTX295 is if money of no object and you absolutely must have the best gear. The 4870x2 is almost as good and much much cheaper. Personally, I'd go that way anyway because I've had fewer problems with ATI cards than Nvidia cards

I do agree that the 295GTX is quite a bit more than the 4870 X2, although as the drivers mature, we could see a larger divide in the performance of the two. If I recall in the first couple of months of the 4870X2s release the Drivers were appalling, and it's taken 8.11 and 9.1 for the 4870 to really become competition for the 295.

Maybe in a couple of Months time we'll see what the 295 is really "made of"

because £335 can almost do the job of £400 = better value
simple :D

At least you admit it, "Almost".

I guess if you are looking for "value" you should look at some of the mid-range graphics cards. If the rest of your system has "value" components then I suspect that it will act as a bottleneck to either GPU

i dont see the point in the extra cash when the x2 can peform just as well
its toys for boys

You seem to have changed your tune. You said it could "almost" do what the 295 does, now you say it can perform "just as well".

Strange.

At the res he wants to game at, either card will probably be more than enough for him. However, I think he'll find that the 295 will give slightly higher FPS in most games (not all, but most). There have been numerous reviews and comparisons of the cards (I know, I read most before I bought mine) and 99% say the 295 is better overall, not by much, but better nonetheless.
