Anyone given up smoking?

I was just wondering if those of you who quit got any serious side effects. I stopped smoking during the day about a month ago and only smoke on nights out (possibly 5/6) yet I've felt extremely drowsy since stopping during the day. Was just wondering if it is normal for such side effects to last this amount of time?

Hearing things from other people will ease me more so than reading stuff from an internet site probably written by someone who is clueless.

Many thanks,

P.S. This is not a medical thread :)

Your brain was literally wired up to work on nicotine. If you cut out the smoking entirely, it'll pass much faster.

I used to smoke about 30-40 a day and stopped 8 years ago. i must say I never suffered any ill effects or withdrawal symptoms but that was maybe down to a complete life style change not just quitting smoking.
Just reread your post stop completely as Nix says.

I don't get cravings. I just enjoy the odd one or two when I'm extremely drunk on nights out. In fact, the thought of smoking when I'm sober makes me cough.

I know it's stupid and I'm trying to cut it out entirely I just wanted to know how fellow OCUKers felt when they quit.

Yep, this. Nicotine is a stimulant drug. Your energy levels will be constantly higher if you cut it completely, for at least a few weeks. After that your body will calm down.

mmm had maybe 10/day average for 4 years, quit 6 months ago and did pretty well, no side effects and managed not to even have one for 2 months, gradually slipping back into the habbit though.
I'm-a have to quit again *sigh*

I used to smoke about 30 a day and gave up in June 2004. Wish I'd done it sooner, tbh.

For something that I used to start, endure and then end my day with, it's an amzing thing to be able to not have to rely on :)

3 and a half months ive quit, and i`d love to go back, but cost and health prevents me. Hardest thing ive ever done, and even now, i struggle to stay quit. Tried 3 times before, and always got to 4 months, and gone back. Im weak , or im seriously addicted :( Im on medication to assist the process, otherwise i`ll start again. side effect to me, im bored all the time, cant sleep , and do not "feel" like myself. 20 cigs a day for 20 years , tough time ahead for me

Good luck! 4 months is good going for having been smoking 20 years!

Good on you chap, I'm in exactly the same boat 20 years of smoking and gave up Nov 1st last year. Not using anything but will power, still going strong.
