Wheel Alignment

Well the whole steering wheel issue caused me a few problems. Driving down the M62 near Hull my dashboard lit up like a Christmas Tree with warning lights.... DTC failure; Handbrake Hill Start Assist failure and a few others. A quick call to BMW Assist and was told it was ok to drive but needed to be looked at by a dealer ASAP. Took the car into Williams Bolton and they informed me all the issues had been caused by the steering wheel alignment (something to do with the sensors). Had the alignment redone with the steering wheel correctly clamped (with apologies from the garage) and everything now seems fine

Thanks for the advise... and if you have a BMW, remember to ensure the steering wheel is correctly aligned.

Bit of a thread resurrection, but is a 4 wheel alignement the same as a geometry check?

center mavity wanted £230 to do the latter on my LCR :o

Not really as some standard cars don't allow camber adjustment which is where most alignment tuning is made, if you're looking for a fast road setup. It's the same with the CTR. It's about £150 for the alignment and camber adjusters, plus whatever it costs for them to fit them first so nearer £200.

Can anyone help in solving my tyre wear problem on my rear tyres of my X5 30d 285/45 R19, I have only got 4,000 miles out of them. Is this an alignment problem?

If anyone is looking for a very very good place to have your alignment or geometry done, I can highly recommend Wheels In Motion in Chesham.

They charge a maximum of £100 for full geometry and are regarded as one of the best places in the UK by MX5 owners

Alignment is usually only a problem if you have uneven wear, is this the case?

5mm out is huge, it doesnt sound like much but that car should have been eating tyres every few hundred miles.

38K on the fronts and 18K on the rears ... maybe I should find myself a better garage back home in SE London. Can anyone recommend anyone?

TGM in fleet, Wheels in Motion are also quite good. Or if you want the best then go to Center mavity.

No they are even across the tyre and so the tyre fitting station say that it seems to be normal wear. I can't believe that the tyres only last for this short amount if miles.
