I'm just about to start a little project to build a PC for a studio and need to have the PC as powerful (so probably overclocked) but as quiet as I can get it.

Anyone have recommendations for quiet fans with good airflow - I've heard the Sharkoon's are good but was wondering if there are alternatives out there

Sharkoons are anything but quiet until you reduce them to 1,000 RPM or less.

The quietest fans I have used that still manage to push decent air are the Noctua NF-P12 Vortex, but unfortunately, they are not cheap.

If you want the best of both worlds, maybe buy a decent fan controller along with the Sharkoons or similar, and adjust the speed/noise ratio to your own taste.

Scythe SlipStream 1200 and fan controller. Because of small motor size and blade geometry it has airflow comparable to that of 150-300 RPM higher speed standard fans.
Only minus is that as sleeve bearing fan it doesn't like being run in horizontal position.

Noctua P12 develops airplane effect when airflow noises have dropped to more acceptable level. (+strong steps in motor seems to make it vibrate)

Yate Loon D12SL @ 7v if you can source them.

Got three of these in an antec 300 case, 2 intake and 1 exhaust. Now, they are quiet so thats good. My only problem is that they dont really push as much air as might like them too. Cheap + Good quality fans though, £3 each when they were on ocuk, bargain :p

For almost £20... No.
Ignoring the price, they are still distinctly average
The ones I had made a horrible whining noise

So what fans will work well with a Zalman ZM-MFC1 Plus Black Multi Fan Controller? I'm looking for absolute silence, if it exists?

Noctua, brilliant cooling, quiet and excellent service. I somehow ended up breaking one of the fins on my noctua fan but after a quick rma, they're sending me a new one free of charge :D. All I had to do was show some proof of purchase and of the damage.
