Real benefits of PZ80 over PX80?

My question is in the thread title basically.

I'm wondering if it is really worth it for me to get the PZ80, its a bit more expensive and I'm not sure I'll get a lot of benefit from it.

I'd go for the PZ80 if you plan on watching a lot of HD stuff.
PX80 would be better for normal TV viewing & the occasional HD film/TV.

Viewing distance too will come into it. Full 1080p is only fully appreciated if you sit fairly close to the screen, like less than 5ft or so. I went from a 1080p Samsung LCD to the 720p PX80 and the PX80 actually looks a lot better. Colours and blacks are way better, adding to the overall detail of the picture.

Our viewing distance is something like 8ft or so.
I guess I'm going to go for the PX80, I do not have a PS3 to watch blu ray and we do not have HD TV as well.

EDIT : Also I'm trying to find the size of the pedestal for this TV but I'm having issues... anyone know where I could find such informations?

thanks a lot mate, sorry for the stupid question but my TV table is not very big, I wanted to check if it would fit!

i have both TV's. Both good and cant really choose one over the other.
1080p PZ will give you a little more as its 1080p and future proof in that respect.

Which ever you get - your a winner!

This has probably been discussed to death but how does a TV with 1024x768 resolution display 720P (1280x720?).

I'm guessing this isn't an issue due to the popularity of this set, just a thought.

The pixels are rectangular rather than square is the basic gist of it.

Nice! Can't wait for it to arrive, the difference with my actual crappy LCD will be astonishing I hope :p

Good choice. Just checkout the hdtvtest review and avforums plasma section for some rough settings to get it off the horrible out of box settings.

Thank you will do.

I also read about this break-in stuff, should I do something special? Or just watching is enough?

I've had the 42PX80 for a few months now. It's one of the only bigger purchases I have no regrets about. Great image quality no matter what you throw at it. HD is great but I'm actally more impressed by how well it displays 350MB AVI's streamed from my HTPC.

I'm going to have my PC plugged in my TV, to watch movies etc..
At the moment I'm using VLC player, is there a better one for quality or is it good enough?

Also something I don't understand, since my PC is plugged into my TV, it could be used as an HTPC as well ?

Yeah VLC player is fine.

Basically a HTPC is a computer that plugs into a TV. There are other things like having an amp plugged in etc but you can use your PC as one :)
