Yo Yo...

Looking for a good MP3 player, currently have a Sony Walkman NW-A1200 8GB (one of the early ones) and it's pretty pants. I mean it plays the music fine, just the menus take a while to load, and the battery life is rubbish. Looking for an MP3 with at least 16gb - not got a set budget though. Cheaper the better. Not bothered about video playing, but if it's value for money then yeah sure :p

Like the look of the Microsoft Zunes but not sure where to get one in the UK. I'm not anti-apple but it just seems like Ipods is just the standard mp3 that everyone gets without researching about other options. I haven't ever owned one though and I guess they must be good if so many people buy them!

So yeah, which MP3?!

:D

There is a single UK based distributor of the Zune. They honour the 1 year warrenty and are quality to deal with. Think they are technically a competitor, though.

Zune all the way.

Cowon D2. It comes in sizes up to 16gb and also has a slot for an SD card.

Along with the old Iaudio X5 and the Sansa Clip, it's the best MP3 player I've listened to.

I love my cowon d2 sounds lush with my ultrasone hfi 780s via my e5 and the batterylife is amazing have also heard the zune sounds very good but that lacks an eq ,same with the sansa clip and sansa fuze.(great flat but not with eq 24hr battery?)
theres also some ipod classic 80gb refurbs available for £113 these are 6th generation so althogh they have dropped the wolfson dac theres a cleaner signal path so with a lod (and amp)would sound pretty good

Try the sony NW S639 for about £99. Best Sound quality on the market, 16gig, Drag n drop, works with itunes, BBC iPlayer and EX85 headphones.

The Clip does have an EQ - it's just rubbish! :D Sounds great flat though.

I second this! Got mine and it is really nice, sounds quality is good with the stock headphones and the battery life is good. The size of the screen lets the video down but the image is still very sharp. One important thing to note is that it only play wma gapless NOT mp3. This was a little disappointing but plays my decoded FLAC nicely :D

The Cowon D2 is a good player but its a bit dated not and more expensive than the sony. There is a couple of good reviews on the net though just search.

yes the sony is also a good choice the only reason ive avoided for myself is the very low output of the amp at 5mw i think , the cowon kicks out 75mw also the sd card integration makes it very expandable and the sound quality of the cowon is amazing. with my ultrasones every layer of music is seperated perfectly, with no distortion

Dont let the rated 5mw misslead you - sony players are now VERY powerfull. I find mine with stock headphones at 18/30 almost too loud to listen to!

Yeah with my UEs around 10 is perfectly adequate but i understand why you would want the extra power when connecting to the amp esp with the FLAC playing capabilities.

the sonys cant manage a decent lineout for some reason so id agree with you there, richard104 - they dont have enough juice in that respect.

for everything else, i found the sony better than my old D2. for all the power it had, the restrictions on the EQ were very poor. not being able to adjust anything below 80hz is quite a major fail in my book.
