£2 million to build 6 bungalows to house gypsies camped on land ear-marked for the Olympics. That's almost £350k each and they're only going to be paying £800 a month rent (assuming they're going to be parking their caravans in their nice, spacious drives) - less than my mortgage. How exactly are travellers going to be able to afford £800 a month incidentally? Since they are located close to the City I assume they are the bankers who have ruined the economy

What especially makes me mad is that for the last few years it's been increasingly hard to get planning permission for new build bungalows as it's not an efficient use of the land, and you've got no chance of a new build with adequate parking facilities - car drivers must be discouraged. So while the law abiding, tax paying majority get stuffed into cramped new build houses, these travellers get a nice mansion close to the centre of London with huge drives for their pick-ups and caravans.

Yawn. Same argument used everytime, "us law abiding tax payers getting shafted!!", blah blah.

Probably because nine times out of ten it is the law abiding tax payer that gets shafted.

They probably don't though. If it weren't for the Sun and the Daily Mail finding something to moan about that is.

Just because you can selectively source a bunch of negative stories doesn't mean anything.

This fails the so what test. Look beneath the sensationalist rubbish. Dream homes? Huge dream homes? Get a grip, its a crappy bungalow. And they are being charged 800 quid a month in total. Seems entirely reasonable, most gyppos dont pay a penny.

From what I gather they won't own the property just pay rent and parking fee's. They should have just been relocated to another site and if its further a field possibly compensated.

Why should they be compensated? They live on a council run site for gyppos. The law says that the council must provide a site for them, it doesn't say they can't move that site.

That's why I said possibly. They had already lost the court case and that is the life they have chosen to lead so they should expect some inconvenience. If they wanted a move to bricks an mortar they could have joined the waiting list like a lot of other people.
