Thank you very much, I've been putting this off for over a year now and today should be a big step in a good direction.

I expect that you have spoken to your doctor/demertologist and know all the facts, you will have to go and have regular blood tests and will not be able to drink on these.

I wouldn't listen to the people who are calling you an idiot for asking on here as it is a hard choice as you will now have people asking you why aren't you drinking, why are you lips chapped all the time.

lexxy -

You won't be given the Roaccutane straight away. The dermatologist will want to 'examine' your skin, find out a bit about you to make the process easier and hopefully more informal, like a one-to-one thing. You'll also have to undergo a blood test before you're given any. In fact, I had to have a blood test a week before every new prescription, so that was practically one blood test every four weeks!

Edit:

I wouldn't listen to the people who are calling you an idiot for asking on here as it is a hard choice as you will now have people asking you why aren't you drinking, why are you lips chapped all the time.

Agreed.

Sounds like you've got bigger problems than spots. seems more like depression now.

If you haven't already tell your GP about those symptoms as even if you can;t get them cleared up there's ways to help you with those problems.

It's a bit hypocritical of me telling you to get help as i didn't(couldn't) when i was feeling similar/acting that way (still am, not because of spots though) and it didn't end very well.

Can your problem be solved by medication? If so, we both need to man up and take a step in the right direction, if not i wish you the best of luck.

I've been twice and I went from topical antibiotic to oral antibiotic so hopefully third time lucky i'll get the stronger stuff that actually does something..

I'm male btw

It has to be signed off by a dermotologist (skin specialist) so could take a while and the other thing is this treatment is expensive so doctors will normally try the alternatives before putting you on this.

Hopefully you will get some results.

I love getting spots, when they "grow" a bit, love popping them :D

No idea why, seems like a bizarre obsession but its just fun for some reason :o.

Also agree with post no 4, its stupid to miss things just because of spots. Who cares what you look like :o.

Trust me man, i know everything about the drug, i must have done more research on it than the guy who invented it.

I'm constantly thinking about it, its always at the back of my mind, usually the front..

I couldn't care less about not drinking, alcohol is an overrated drug anyway ;)

I haven't been myself in the last 15 months or so, for some reason it never used to affect me, then all of a sudden i became really conscious about it.

The thing is I'm 19 and no where near a full adult in terms of finishing puberty, so I'm hoping this is just a phase that will be over after a course of accutane

I have suffered acne since about 13/14. I am now 24, and the problem is still there. Roaccutane DID help, but be prepared for more than one course. The side-effects are managable, but if you are already suffering depression because of the spots you need to make sure you manage your mental health as well as possible, seeking as much help as possible.

Roaccutane is not a wonder cure, so it's very possible you might clear up on it, but the spots may return.

Ignore the morons on here who haven't a sodding clue how acne can affect you and your life :).

Go on it.

I let the acne ruin my life. I did go on roaccutane at 16+17 though it didn't fully cure me.

I never used to care about it, then late high school it started to affect my confidence, then I started to feel anxious, then followed depression along with terrible GCSE performance, then not bothering with college, panic attacks at work...

Only just got some normality in the past year. 5 years down the pan though, jobless (although getting interviews and trying like mad to just get anything), but I'm now no longer feeling down about myself so much any more and only realising what a big affect acne has had on my life, it's frightening how it can just "get you".

Maybe it's just me, but no one seemed to understand and left right and centre had people telling me to "get on with it", as much as I tried it became harder and harder and just came across as a quitter when I eventually succumbed to the anxiety.

Have you really tried everything? I suffered a great deal. I know damn well the emotional affect it has on you. You're not alone!

The ONLY cure i found was not to irrirate your skin with any kind of scrub or soaps. I used pure water to wash my face, then applied Benzol Peroxide to my skin before bed. Wash off in the morning.

2 weeks and, for the first time, i seen a drastic improvment. I've gone about 6-8months spot free untill i got sloppy and decided to stop the BP and use a facial scrub. 3 days later i have a massive spot on the side of my nose and its propper nasty/sore. Really destroys your confidence if you've had them for years like some people do.

They are no family photos of me from the age of 12-16 when I had started to get bad acne, since then I still don't like my photo being taken but they are a couple of photos on here of me, I will dig then out if you want to see what my skin is like almost 8 years on, I don't have th best of diets and very very rarely get the odd spot, but these clear up with in the day.

KaHn - perhaps you need to be introduced to the spot blemishing tool on Photoshop! Works wonders when you hate photos of yourself :)

As said you cant just assume you will be given it, if its not that bad they wont give you Roaccutane, i know as when i was about 16-18 i had quite bad spots on my shoulders and on my neck that sound wore than you have now and they would not offer me it as I was not considered bad enough. I went private in the end and was given the option to but ultimately i didnt go onto it as the side effects sounded hurrendous, they all clear up eventually but i understand how it can destroy your confidence. Good luck in whatever you do though.

Thanks maccy

With regards to have i tried everything?

I've tried a lot

-Clearasil
-Cetaphil
-Clean and Clear
-BP
-Doxycycline
-Clindomycin
-SA
-Just water ( am currently doing this now)

I am fed up of topicals, and temporary measures. At least if i give accutane a shot i know I've done all in my power to try and eradicate the problem.

That's just called being insecure and caring what you look like. Both are pretty stupid reasons. Every Spring/Summer I get those yellow "spot" type things, forget what they are called. So what, not like they are poisonous...
