For a laugh I thought I'd have a look to see how much it would be to take my Laptop (HP HDX16-1005EA) from its installed 4Gb up to its maximum 8Gb (its running Vista64 before anyone say it won't see it!!)...

Now the memory installed is 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Laptop Memory CL5 (blah blah) which at most places is Sub £40squid...

So I thought I'd have a look and see how much 8GB (2x4GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Laptop Memory CL5...

I was shocked to see prices in excess of £500 :eek: I can't find it cheaper anywhere!!...

How come its Sooooooooooooooooooooo Extortinatly Expensive?!?!?!..

Looks like I'll be sticking to 4Gb for a bit!!..

Sim :)

I guess putting memory with that sort of density on a SO-DIMM PCB is just tricky at this point...

I'll just have to struggle (hehe) with Photoshop and AutoCAD etc on 4Gb...

I was only seeing how much it was anyway!... Can't even afford £25 squid to take my other aged system from 1Gb PC3200 to 2Gb at the mo!!.. :D

It just shocked me that to double the RAM is 10x the price!!...

probably a combo of not many Memory makers making the stuff, the lack of demand and technical problems forcing the prices up

Mine is or can be!... its got 4Gb and can handle upto 8Gb... the 320Gb 5400rpm SATA Hard Disc can be changed to a 7200rpm SATA (what ever size you want) Hard Disc...

Laptop components are always going to be stupidly expensive because nobody really upgrades them too much hence there's no demand.

the reason why its so much more expensive is that instead of having one-gigabit ram CHIPS (those little black squares?) you need 2Gb ones, which are MUCH harder to make and are thus, considerably more expensive.
