Where to get oil?

Last week I got 2 litres of 5w30 Castrol Magnatec for I think £5.28 each from Unipart, was on special, think the edge was just a little bit more, possibly teh same, I can't remember.

In comparison Halfords want £11.99 a litre, lol.

I'm not talking about other things, I'm just talking about tyres/oil. I'm not casting judgement on people who cannot afford high quality goods or choose cheaper goods, I'm casting judgement on people who choose to risk their life with crap tyres for the sake of a few quid.

None of that rubbish has any influence on the safety of others on the road. People cheaping out on tyres does.
So does people cheaping out on cars in general. If everyone drove a new car with exceptional performance in all areas, various driving aids and underwent extreme conditions driver training the safety of others would increase. Fact is, not everyone can afford all of that.

Where do you draw the line between crap tyres and good tyres?

Generally tyre places list all the cheap nasty ones as "Budget" tyres, I wouldn't touch those as they are shocking. It's pretty easy to draw the line between the tyres by the price and by the brand. In my case the difference between a budget nasties and half decent tyres is about £15 a corner, so budgets would cost me £140 for the whole set fitted or £200 for a set of decent tyres fitted. i know what I'd go for.

and I would never fit budget tyres. But then, I may never fit your tyres either, as I may think they're crap because they aren't maximum performance tyres?

I'm having serious difficulty trying to establish whether you are just playing devils advocate or you're being serious.

If you think Contis are rubbish and you buy a better tyre then what's the argument you are trying to make? My Continentals won't be dangerously crap like £25 tyres and the tyres you choose will be even better, that's your choice, you've chosen to have the best of the best and I've chosen something decent. Either way we're happy with our choice and no one has crap tyres. You're missing my point completely, my point is that if you went out and brought £25 Ling Longs and then tried to make out they were as good the Continentals because you cannot tell the difference then you are wrong.

Wrong. The Autocar article on budget tyres a few weeks back was very intersting. The safety standards for tyres to be sold in the UK is VERY crude and was demonstrated during the article to be completely substandard. The idea that if they are on sale they are safe is VERY flawed indeed.

you can adjust your driving to suit slightly less performing tyres...if you need ultra high tech tyres just to stay safe, perhaps you should take the bus or something lol.

and do you consult mystic meg before the start of each journey to check there will be no unexpected mishaps along the way?

do you adjust your fortune telling skills according to your tyres?

I have 452's and pay £500 a set Goodyear Eagle F1#s would probably cost me another £200 on top, i find the falkens very good all round and handle 280bhp very well, they will step out in the wet on corners if your suicidal on the gas pedal would £200 better tyres hold up better? I doubt it to be honest I could save £100 and go for Fulrun or Wanli or Nexen these are condisidered budget to the extreme but they are death traps on high powered cars, you only have to do a few searches on car forums. 452's get a good rep because they are good F1's or whatever premium tyres might be better but in what circumstances, for playful road use I can't see where the extra outlay benefits.
