What is the most skilled motorsport?

Difficult to split them all as an overall answer.

But on 4 wheels I would say Rallying.

Two wheels I would agree with the others here who have said road racing.

The skill riders need to ride fast and competently in the likes of the Isle of Man TT or the NW200 is far beyond what most bikers will ever be able to comprehend.

just see what happened when Richard hammond tryed to drive the F1 car.

And thats before you account for the physical aspect of F1 - the G forces. You just wont experience that level of grip in any other kind of motorsport, due to the aero package that F1 cars run. Ive heard several times about drivers who have had serious neck ache from being in F1 cars, due to their neck muscles not being strong enough to take the Gs over a sustained period of time.

I dont think its fair to say any of the motorsports take more "skill" than the others. However, some certainly take more balls :)
 
Well if last years race of champions at Wembley is anything to go by it's rally driving and Loeb won it (again) over various drivers including one (ex) F1 in Coulthard who came 2nd...
 
its hard to say really
a lot depends on the person too
look at Rossi in motoGP, he`s also good at rally and driving an F1 Ferrari
he is better at them than some guys that drive them all the time
some guys are good at what ever they do

Loeb is just a machine though.

he completely dominates rallying. Thats not to say that rally drivers are awesome, just that loeb is INCREDIBLY talented.

He could probably turn his hand to another form of motorsport and be just as dominant if he wanted.
 
I'd say rallying, becasue they can apply their skills off and on the road and still be damned quick. They have to take a lot of info through the ears, their eyes as well as the feel of the car whilst trying to anticipate how to tackle the next corner.
 
I'm going to say F1.
As already suggested, Rallying has a LOT more variables, and IMO that means that a driver is working with a fairly wide window of risk, meaning that either he's going to drive fairly slowly, or to a degree of risk. F1 has fewer variables, so a driver will be working closer to the finite capabilities of his machine, and allowing for fewer elements of unexpected risk.

Very true but it is all tarmac...

And yes Loeb is a machine of awesome talent. I heard he's had a go at F1 cars and performed excellent for his first time in them...

Anyway who cares, they are all talented and each type of motorsport requires different skills and techniques. I would imagine all the top drivers could pick up different genres of motorsport and do well at them!

That was confirmed kinda when Sebastian Loeb went in a Red Bull F1 car, can't remember where I read it, but he did very well. The general opinion was that a rally driver would adapt much better/faster to F1 than vice versa :)

DJ was an incredibly talented rider but I have to say there are some really silly manouvers pulled in that clip. :eek:

Then again, it was Mad Sunday I 'spose. :cool:

I've had it a few times out on the road when I am out overtaking either another bike or a car and as I am passing the car or bike, some daft git comes blasting past me at the same time, usually through a space that their bike only just fits through.

Seriously annoying, not only that but downright dangerous for themselves and me.

It's one of my pet hates on the road and all it comes down to is stupidity, no concern for other riders and above all, showing off without any consideration of what the consequences could be if it all goes pear shaped.

Possibly acceptable on Mad Sunday where there's no oncoming traffic and the rider is as skilled as DJ was, but it still makes me wince when I watch that clip. ;)
 
MotoGP, rally and F1 racers are all incredibly skilled. It it was easy then it would not really be a competitive sport:p

The teams of engineers behind the cars/bikes are the ones with the highest skills imo.
 
I'd say F1. It's very easy for someone to jump into a rally car and drive it. But to jump in an F1 car and drive that is a whole different world.

See Hammond on Top Gear struggling with it.
