Thousands of drivers with photo licence face fines of up to £1,000

Oh heavens above, one has to turn the card around.

Not denying it, just saying it could have been a lot clearer. Hell, why not just put "4b" on the passport then as well. Easier than printing "Date of Expiry" like they do at the moment

i think most people dont expect it to expire, i've updated my address severals times over the last few years but never really noticed the expiry date.

think they should send expiry notices 6 month before they expire, that way people cant complain

ok, its fairly simple, quite a lot of people will look quite drastically different over 10 years, weight gain, loss, beard, hair style etc. Photo licences should be replaced pretty regularly otherwise, well, having a photo on it would be pointless.

If people are too stupid to notice a date on their licence, thats in the future, and can't put two and two together deserve to be fined.

Mine is less than 10

4a. 27-08-08 4b. 14-07-13 :confused::confused::confused:

Probably from when I updated my address and was issued a new card, to the original expiry date (not updated bizzarely - because of no photo change perhaps)?

Apparently I'm at risk of the same fine for not having updated my address, which at present I just haven't got around to since moving to my current flat, but seeing as I'm currently looking for somewhere to move it seems a bit daft to do it now.

I never knew until fairly recently when it was on the news...

There is NO mention of this in the paperwork which came with mine (I have it still in an old folder) and on mine the only reference is one entry marked 4b with a date and its very small squashed in between a load of items dated 2051. I've changed address twice since getting my license too.

There is absolutely no way I would have known or been able to work out what it was. I notice on my brothers more recent photo license that theres a list for each entry and 4b is marked as expiry date and on his 4b is central on the front of the card and in 3x bigger lettering.

I'd say the reason why theres a lot of people who haven't renewed is not just that they haven't noticed, but that there is a batch or batches of these cards issued without a full listing of the relevant information.

less than 10 here as well....

However I think the 10 years is made up maybe from the start date of your provisional licence (Which is 2 years max) and if you get a full licence then whatever time you had from your provisional is subtracted from the 10 year period for your full licence

I spotted the expirary on mine, when i was checking that they hadn't lost any of my "entitlements" after the update from paper to photo ;)

To be honest i'm not surprised a lot of people don't notice/know about the expiry date, as a lot of people also don't seem to be aware of the requirement to update the licence when they move etc ;)

How? you don'rt send a photo in for change off address and I've moved houses 5 times in the last 3 or 4 years. Non of them have extended it. As they need a new photo.

Sorry I just checked, they have changed it from when I first moved from Leicester to Stratford (still using original pic). My renewal date is now 2015, not 2009.

It's from the date they received the photo, so unless you changed your photo on getting your new licence then yes that will be the case

You wont get a warning. If you get stopped by the cops you will get a fine. Why are they money grabbing? If we didn't pay it, we would pay for it through taxes. It's just one of those things.
