Can I request JDM glass?

I need a new windscreen before my MOT in March. IIRC the glass on my Civic is a different part number to the UK model, lighter/tougher glass I think.

I have £60 excess through my insurance, can I request the original windscreen?

I'll ring the insurance co. in the morning, but has anyone had any similar experiences? What are my rights before they fob me off with cheap RAC glass?

How different can the UK glass be? Is this a case of JDM fanboyism maybe, or is the JDM glass actually better?

With the mk1 MR2s Jap cars have a bronze tint whereas UK cars are green however people with imports have no trouble getting bronze glass on insurance, although it can take a little longer to source.

Getting thinner glass may be an issue as it's no different visibly but as long as you make sure they know that you're aware of the difference then you should have a decent chance of getting it, if you say nothing they're more likely to just give you uk glass and hope you don't notice.

I would have thought it is different.

but it shouldn't matter anyway, windscreens are only for one thing ?
you wouldn't notice any different from a JDM one and a normal one, except JDM ones sometimes have tints.

Lighter, harder, faster and better. Available in different colours and spec to EUDM, UKDM and USDM.

You also get maximum scene points.

:p

It's tinted green.. The weight can't be THAT different can it? I mean glass is glass, right?

I know the ek9's have bronze tinted thinner glass but does this also apply for the windscreen?

No idea tbh mate..

Not enough weight difference to matter. Glass is glass

Quality-wise though who knows.

But this is JDM glass. Even though for all intents and purposes it is the same, it's JDM and therefore better.

Rumour has it that the coefficient of friction is less and thus it cuts through the air quicker than a lubed sausage goes down a dog.

Don't forget the 40% price hike. But its so worth it for those scene points y0

Why don't you ask your brother who is a windscreen fitter ;)

I don't really know on this one tbh, there is or at least was a problem getting replacement screens for JDM 300zx's, most of them with replacement screens have UK ones which have a blue tint instead of bronze. Look at a UK and JDM car and you wouldn't immediately tell the difference but when you mix and match them on the same car it is glaringly obvious.

How would he know what my insurance companies windscreen policy is?

I'd assume the windscreen companies are the ones who deal with it all and just send the invoice to the insurer. I guess nearly all of their work is insurance jobs so he must have some knowledge of how they work.

He just gets a job sheet that says fit x screen to y car AFAIK, I don't think the fitters know the ins and outs.

I asked him anyway and he said just phone the insurance co:p He did mention RAC glass is rubbish though and 90% of fitters are crap and leave the trim in a mess/snap clips.

edit: tempting to buy one and get my bro to fit it, but not at these prices:

Factory part numbers are:
7311-S03-Z00
7311-S03-Z01 superceeded the first code.
Honda price £314.64

JDM is the only EK type R, so it will be the thinner one.

Get a UK one in there = more weight and the seals wont seat properly around the glass. Not good.
