Hello all,

I'm after this lens to accompany a 30D, however my parents are going to New York in March and was wondering if there are any camera shops there and how much I should expect to pay, and if it's any cheaper than used prices here?

Many thanks,

Yes, it would probably be cheaper due to the stupid pound-dollar rate at the moment. The issues are the warranty (lenses have an international warranty and bodies are country specific, IIRC, so you should be fine) and being stung by customs on the way back - I believe most solve this by keeping the lens on them and posting the packaging and documents back separately.

I always have a go. I got my 430EX-II flashgun for £30 cheaper than the in store price by showing them a website price and asking them to match it.

Always worth a go - asking for a couple of extras is always a good way of getting some extra value. When I bought my skis in 2002 I got them to add in a ski bag and some ski sharpening/tuning tools for free.

Can you haggle on prices in store??

BH Photo were the ones I was trying to remember when emailing you. I would imagine they are more inclined to haggle given the economic downturn. Go for a free memory card if nothing else.

Alright fella :p

Was thinking a UV cover to protect the glass. I'd probably ask either my parents or the shop to mail the packaging to the UK and then just get them to carry the lens as hand luggage.

Cheers for the help people :)
