Tried to Google this and came back with no answers....

But how much thrust would an average mountin bike and a 12-13 stone bloke need to keep up with traffic ?!?

Yes i've got this mad idea of making a jet bike.... cause i'm bored with walking or driving........

Answer on the back of a post card.... erm no, on here please LOL

The earths gravitational force on 13 stones would be about 750N, so to lift off you would need well over 750N of upward thrust, and more to counteract air resistance.

Unfortunately I don't know how to calculate thrust needed to go forward, so why don't you just make a rocket instead of a bike.

clarkson stuck a turbine on the back of a bicycle in some tv show years ago didn't he?

it wasn't motorworld, but the other one, C20th greatest machines or something?
the one where he bought a plane and stuck it in his front lawn :p

Hum, would a jet engine on a mountain bike make it a "motor vehicle" liable for VED/insurance etc? I'm not sure how "motor" is defined in this sense :)

Would it not be easier to buy a motorbike?

Yes, but no where near as kool......

Blimey..... loads of posts.

Well i'll see if i can google the maths part, but yer two RC jet engines should be enough, but i might just get 3 (just incase i gain extra weight !!!)

Not sure on law about this, so i'll give the DVLA a call...:D

I remember all the fun of Go-Peds was thrown out the window years ago because they were deemed liable to be taxed and insured. Probably a good thing as I'm surprised I didn't kill myself on mine!

Pics if you go ahead with it, sounds great fun :)

O yes, i've got the bike and i'm watching Ebay for the engine, but my step dad has said he would help build one if i needed (he has a new turbo that hes not used and a welder)

Tho i'm not sure how easy all the maths part would be.....
