Heard this on Radio 4 on the way home tonight, almost cried all the water out of my body...

"He had been wanted from counties Cork to Cavan after racking up scores of speeding tickets and parking fines.
However, each time the serial offender was stopped he managed to evade justice by giving a different address."

In fact he wasn't even human.

"Prawo Jazdy is actually the Polish for driving licence and not the first and surname on the licence,"

Oh dear..... :o

the story raised a smile, but the beeb's generic 'related pic' of a map of poland made me laugh!
We all need a map showing the capital of poland for any story vaugley related.. or not.

Ireland is this country?

Yes, it is this country.

I can't say I'm surprised. The Poles here will do anything to pull the wool over your eyes when it comes to dodgy licences and insurance. I can't believe it went on for so long though.

I noticed something similar earlier today as well. There was a story about a boy on a bike who was knocked down by a bus. It had a pic of a BMW 5series???

I don't think it's the poles pulling one over, I think it's just the unfamiliarity with Polish driver's license. It's not like the Poles have been entering "Prawo Jadzky" as their name.. it's just on the top of the card where in english it would say "Driver's License"

Which is still impressively dumb, since the EU drivers licence is standardised, this is why on the front of the photocard it doesn't say Surname: Bloggs, Forename: Joe etc. it just says 1. Bloggs 2. Joe and on the back is an explanation of what 1 and 2 mean. If you look at the picture of the Polish licence on the BBC article you'll see it's exactly the same there, so you'd hope that coppers would know what the numbers mean so that they can note down the details correctly.

But apparently this is too hard for the Garda :)

Maybe I should try giving my name as "Trwydded Yrru" if I ever get stopped?

Bingo! 10pts to Mr. Stoned_SpaZZZ :D
I did consider if he was in Ireland but it says nothing in his profile. If you posted on an American website would you still think that this country meant where you live or America. Its common sence.

Anyone who is arguing about wether Ireland is part of the UK or that "this" country means anything other than England or the UK at a stretch just is not worth my time.
