Gave the first 3 maps in campaign a go last night and it is very different from the MP side. So far you don't get a base, instead you have various elite units under your control which level up so you can spend points in various skills to improve them. You can also collect upgrades which improve various hardware aspects of you troops e.g. armour, weapons etc. I enjoyed it for the most part, but I am hoping that the MP is unchanged from the beta (+/- balancing).
Although based on the CoH engine the gameplay style is very different from your usual RTS, to the point where DoWII may not actually be a RTS. Depends on whether you consider resource gathering, base building and tech research a crucial factor. Instead there are various buildings on a given map that you can capture, but you can only capture one building per play, meaning if a map has two or three buildings you must go back to that sector once or twice to cap the remaining ones :/
It is a little strange.
