Well it took 7 years , but...

Joint second best final fantasy imo, tied with FFVIII, the ending was absolutely brilliant. Now, avoid FFX-2 at all costs, you have been warned.

Haha not as long as my 11 years for half life :) (i finished it last monday after a few too many years of not finishing it)

Still woo! (time for half life 2 for me)

When I asked the missus which FF game I should try to get into the series with, she said FFX. When I asked about X-2 she went on a bit of a tirade ! :D

I won't bore you with mine tbh. Put it this way, if she used more than 5 profanities in a row to describe it she feels as strongly as i do about how rubbish it was. On its own i wouldn't have been too upset, but it's the fact that it defecated all over the characters i'd grown to love in the previous game.

Ahhh, I was quite tempted to buy ffx-2 , but the whole girl band thing is putting me off somewhat...

So its not worth picking up then?

Also, how good does the FMVs look in game!! Is definitly up there with xbox 360 games even though its like an 8 year old game imo!

So what exactly is so bad about it?

I'll give you the short, censored version:

The feel of the game is completely different, it's cheesy, there's catch phrases and everyone is now 'cutesy'. Gone is the shy, reserved but subtly beautiful Yuna, replaced by some chick in hot pants with dual wielded pistols. The game is also riddled with stupid minigames that were clearly inserted to please the Japanese anime-kids that wanted to perv over Yuna and Rikku in the original game, one such example is when Yuna has to give a massage to the female villain in her lair... no, i'm not kidding.

The villains also are no longer sinister or epic, they've been replaced by three bumbling comic-relief characters who spend more time tripping over rocks than threatening anyone. There are also many, many cringe worthy moments, one such example is when you have to arrange a concert for Yuna to sing in to cheer her up, believe it or not this section takes up a large portion of the entire storyline. The best characters in the game have been ruined (Yuna) or just don't feature in the game, Wakka and Kilmarhi have cameos but most of their dialogue isn't even voiced. The playable characters are limited to three, two of which (Rikku and Yuna), you already know the back story of and therefore there is little character development. Payne is pretty boring too, basically a carbon copy of Lulu in personality but in a skimpy leather outfit.

The best way to draw a comparison i have always found is to watch the intros of both games which i have included below. Watch the X-2 one at your own peril, have something handy to chew on or else you'll probably gnaw your own hand off.

The one, and i mean the one good thing about X-2 is the 'complete' ending. However to get this you have to win possibly the most annoying and difficult mini-game to ever grace a final fantasy.

FFX-2 may be cheesy in the J-POP girl power Charlies Angles sense, but isn't that the whole point of the game?

Seeing as the world of Spira is now at peace after Sin was defeated, everyone now has a happier life. Yeah I don't like that the fact that they turned shy Yuna into some idol for Otakus to perve at, but it does obviously add to her character now that she is more brave and confident.

It is a very Japanese young trendy-like teen culture derived game but once you can get past that, it is actually quite enjoyable. Just suck it up and try it if you want to see the FFX story go into a different path.

God this is making me want to play FFX now, havent finished it despite getting really far in it many times - time to pick up a copy i guess :)

What a difference in the intros......... ;)

If I watched the endings for ffx-2 to get the "complete ending" as you say, will I not know whats going on, or will I get it because I have played ffx?

Could you recommend some videos of youtube for me to watch this complete ending please mate. :)

I got a third of the way through the game and lost the will to live, the way the characters are is bad enough, but to get a complete perfect ending seemed impossible.
I swear there was a requirement like having to get a certain FMV and to get that you would have to run around in a big circle for 20 seconds at one point in the game, or some crap like that.

You want a good FF then go for FF7 on PS1, my fav.
Crisis Core I thought was quite good on the psp aswell.
