Emigration maybe it's time

Did the holiday thing and went back again to make sure it wasn't just rose tinted tourist specs, hired a car in Sydney and spent a few months travelling up the coast, mainly scuba diving but experiencing most islands, towns and villages on the way, flew back to Englandcestershire from Cairns.

The things I want out of life.... well, warm and sunny bloody weather would be a start. :D
I understand pricing structures of everything is going to be different and I can't see how you can compare prices here to there... When you get paid a different wage to start with it's all relevant to that anyway.
As long as you can survive on decent food and a roof over your head, I'd quite happily forsake all the other materialistic ******** I've become so used to over here (the reason for most of my debt and also my now disdain for it all. ;)) for the sunshine, beaches and surf

Already mentioned the family thing in the edit above, TBH I'm pretty much a loner, never really felt close to any family member, mainly because they never supported me in ambitions or aspirations at a young age, only ever got grief. :(

Being able to drive for hours and hours and stay in the same country would keep me busy on the holiday / exploring stakes for a long time. Obviously Nurburgring trips would become somewhat prohibitive but I'm not bothered when there is Bathhurst locally :D

I love nature and open spaces so the "bugs" don't scare me in the slightest, it's actually an attraction.

How bad is your debt? and how will you support yourself if you move? You might find that they wont let you get a visa unless you have enough money to support yourself for a certain period of time.

Personally i wouldn't emigrate to australia with less than £15k, and that would be a bare minimum.

Bad enough that I couldn't sell everything and be solvent straight away.
But As far as I am aware the application process takes a year or so anyway.

Australia is a big place. If you move from cold wet england to sweaty sub-tropical queensland you will be in for a culture shock.

I guess the trick is to move to Australia or wherever to gain a benefit, not just to leave the UK to escape from the shambles here.

Don't leave it too late - there is an age cut off above which getting into a foreign country is hard. Also, once you are married and have kids the timing of making the move starts to get hard.

I'm sick of this country and I'll admit all I ever do is, in true British form, moan about it instead of DOING something about it.

Aside from doing a "v for vendetta" what can people do about it that will actually make a difference? Nothing. That's why I'll also be emigrating. God knows what's going to happen to England after all the skilled people leave and it's just left with people on the dole and polish builders.

If you are sick of it and moan all the time, then just get off your arse and do it. It's not that hard to leave the country!

Also, once you leave the country for any length of time, I guarantee you will become more natoinalistic/ patriotic.

This, rather than people whinging just sod off to another country, after a few months the grass will look at lot less green.

Actually that's litterally true, and one of the things I miss about the UK. You don't get those deep healthy green colours of the grass & trees that you do in the UK.

But I wouldn't move back to the UK just yet... it's an option a couple of years down the line, but not while it's in such a dire state (economy).

A couple of things I dislike about Australia...

  • The driving / drivers - Although this is only really bad in Western Australia
  • Roundabouts - After stopping for lights every 100m, I really miss them
  • The god awful TV - Specifically the advertising and the way they casually slip it into normal programs.
  • Some of the word usage - e.g. We pronounce data "Dayta" and they pronounce it "Daataa" infact they use a lot of americanisms.

But all of those things are pretty minor, and would never cause me to pack my bags and leave.

Unless you have a degree, even then you will struggle to get a sponsor.

Both my sisters are US citizens, and they reckon it could take up to 7 years for me to get over there if they want to apply for me.

i dont know why they dont have that same system here......this place is know like "monkey Island" with every tom dick and henry coming here

As others have said, very.

Could always look into Canada, better country really but have no idea how their Visa policy or whatever works.

As has already been said. Very similar now to the US system. Either marry someone who is Canadian, have a lot of money and be able to set up a business and employ people there, get a skilled workers visa (search for Canadian NOC) or just apply. All have varying degerees of timeline for visa processing.

As has already been said go visit the british expats forum as veritable mine of info.

(Married to a Canadian and moving in the next few years with the backup of an international company to do a job transfer with :D )

You going over as a PR? Or on a work visa? I'm engaged to a Canadian and am going over as a PR in May. I don't have a job lined up though :(.
