Just spilled 1 litre of Castrol GTX on my carpet

:o

So yeah back to the mats.. I know my wet muddy feet are going on them but have you ever been in a car after you've spilled some oil? The smell just doesn't go away, ever. I wanted to thoroughly clean them!

Chuck em in the washing machine mate, when I sold my folks Merc, the mats were a state (me dads a part time mechanic:p), and with them being cream, no amount of me scrubbing worked, but one stint in the washing machine, they came up like new.

Even if it doesnt get rid of the stain, It will get rid of the smell.

Not sure mate, here's a pic:

What you need is a sea bird as they seem to attract any form of oil spill, so grab the nearest seagull you can find :D

On a more serious note the mat looks cleaner with the spill then my mat do without, also is an old housewifes tale that vinegar can get rid of oil? Don't try it just in case it bleaches the mat but I'm sure I've heard of it being used before.

For those just saying that they're just mats, It'll be pretty damned hard to find some mint OEM EK9 mats considering they were only sold in Japan and aren't made anymore. Tims car is pretty damned mint as it is so I can understand his plight.

Apart from a carpet cleaning device + some advice from cleaners about oil stains, I'd try them in the washer personally.

I need to get some more recent pics, but after i've polished it when it gets a bit warmer.

Anyway:
