Ah well it looks like my 360 has gone kaput as you can see from the thumbs below.

No red lights, just graphic mayhem after being on for 10-15 mins, Media Center won't display either, my TV gives a "mode not supported" error.

Bought in Sep 06, it's been back twice, both times for unreadable disc errors, the first time it was fixed for free, the second time i paid.
Not sure if i'm gonna bother ringing up this time, i may just buy a new Arcade console from somewhere.
I'm not that gutted really, i was resigned to the fact that it would go down at some point (can't believe i'm saying that, why do we put with it ?), it's just a bit galling as i've just bought a 120gig HDD for it !!

Anyway, i just need to check that it's ok to buy an Arcade and stick my HDD on it ?, also how do i get one these "new" consoles that i've been hearing about, the ones that are quieter and will last forever ?(allegedly) :)

The "Jaspers" are mostly Arcade machines.

I had a Premium die recently after 3yrs 3months, so I jut bought an Arcade and stuck the old HDD on it no worries :D

The Jasper is MUCH quieter than my old launch day machine.

The "falcon" versions of Xbox do(my Elite did anyway). Isnt it to early to condemn the jaspers reliability right now? :)

My friends RROD after a few weeks. I've heard of others too. While they may be more reliable the RROD problem hasn't been fixed.

Holy sweeping statement !!
Care to elaborate ? :p

The graphics corruption you are experiencing is the early sign of GPU failure, caused by the GPU contacts breaking, similar to the CPU failure that causes the RRoD. The exact same thing happened to my launch day console, eventually leading to total video failure.

The 'oven' trick of reflowing the solder beneath the chip, followed by the x-clamp replacement mod will fix it, and very likely prevent it happening ever again.

This thread (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17916813&highlight=bricked) will tell you everything you need to attempt the repair yourself. There are also several of us on here more than willing to assist :).

Thanks for that Memphis, i have bought an Arcade today, got a good deal, console and a game for £129.99.
I may have a go at fixing the old one using the info you've linked to, or i may just sell it as it is. :)
