I have an ATI Radeon 4870 X2. I connect it to my HD TV via a DVI-HDMI cable.

This requires me to have a seperate analogue audio connection. Is there any way to connect it to my TV via the HDMI with combined digital audio?

Yes, I have "High Definition Audio Device" in my device manager (Vista x64).

Although I'm aware there are 3 different flavours of DVI, my understanding was that it was video only. My 4870 X2 only has 2xDVI and an S-Video out.

I can't understand for the life of me how I get the sound out of this thing.

The 4xxx series cards all support audio through DVI via the DVI>HDMI dongle. USe that and an HDMI cable and you'll be laughing.

I'm using the little grey DVI-HDMI adapter that came with the card. I connect a male-male HDMI cable to that. I get nothing from my TV...
