Hi Guys, As I understand it the minimum wage brackets are as follows:

16-17years £3.53
18-21years £4.77
22years+ £5.73

Does anyone know here what the law is regarding OTE (On Target Earnings) and minimum wage? I.E if someone were to be working 16 hours a week purely OTE with no basic pay, are they entitled to minimum wage?

Cheers

Lee

The people i will employ will be classed as self employed but not owning their own business. I.E contract workers who file their own tax returns etc..

If you are running your own business I suggest you consult your solicitor for advice on employment law rather than an internet computer forum.

True, the business is in its infancy and i am unable to afford anything more than an accountant at this stage! Any advice will be taken in an advisory capacity for the time being and will allow me to ask more direct questions when i talk with the appropriate people at a later stage (in about 2 months when i am ready to start employing others)

Might not be same with this but a while ago a friend in a restaurant earned £3 per hour (+tips) however the minimum wage was ~£5.40 and they were expected to get tips to make hr wage over the minimum, if these tips didnt cover the minimum wage the boss had to make it up (the difference).

Then they're self employed and not entitled to minimum wage, sick pay, holiday pay or anything else as far as I'm aware. However, because of these things contract workers will normally demand a lot more than minimum wage.
