Certainly not. Look at it the same way you would a driving game if you will, you don't need a wheel to enjoy it but it helps. Get the game, if you get really into it then consider investing in a stick.

Second that. Only get the stick if u're really into it. Playing it with a normal controller works just fine in my opinion.

Is that the Hori Ex2? They come in a little cheaper don't they? TBH i'd rather spend less if at all possible... just trying to save my thumb lol

I bought the Hori EX2 stick as I don't plan on buying sanwa parts, had heard a lot of horror stories (typical madcatz quality), and was much happier spending £40 rather than £70.

I can pull off all super moves etc on command now so there's no need for me to get a better stick (If the SE is even a better stick as it doesn't use any sanwa parts).

Actually I highly recommend trying the 360 analogue stick before buying a stick as it actually works surprisingly well! I think the game takes the 360 pad into account and almost guesses what move you meant to do.

Some prefer the Hori, some prefer the Mad Catz, I would personally go for the cheapest as I doubt you will find stock of the SF IV sticks anywhere anyway! Also there is a risk buying the Mad Catz as quite a lot of people have broken ones. (although the main issue that gets reported is quite easily fixed by yourself)

Stock is hard to find for sticks now so I would go for whatever one you find in stock, be it the Hori or the SF sticks.

Personally I would always recommend a Hori made stick over a MadCatz one any day of the week...

Aside from the faulty units the buttons and joystick on the standard SF IV stick are both top notch, but still as it's so cheap to replace the stuff with Sanwa parts you may as well, will only set people back around £26-30.

Then you have TE quality.

Except for the TE stick which is madcatz only in name and the outer shell.
Thats a given...

But I dont see the point of getting the SE version and then upgrading it to Sanwa when you could do the same with the Horis out there for less (PS3 Hori Fighting Stick is half the price of the SF4 SE stick)...

On the Horis I would say the button placement is the only misgiven...

its because the SE (and TE) is designed to make it pretty easy as you just swop the buttons and plug in whereas hori's dont consider modders and so you have to get your soldering iron etc. (i think).

Yep I think that is the reason many people opt for the SE so they can mod it easily at a later date. (or replace things if they break)

There's a good video on YouTube regarding the SE stick for anybody thinking of getting one; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ6DGkuUQsc

Really though aside from the defective sticks out there really is nothing wrong with it and does feel like a quality product. If you get a faulty stick there is a video on YouTube with the fix for it.

:

I haven't been able to find the Hori in stock anywhere so I opted for the SE, from what I read the SE was a bit better and a lot easier to swap in Sanwa parts at a later date.

The only Hori sticks I could find were on play-asia for £60+ and of course ebay for ridiculous amounts.
