After my recent purchase from youselves I feel I own a small percentage of this car, let me know when you want to go back to the darkside again and you can borrow my chaved up beetle in return for your tuned fiat :p

As in you bought the 911Turbo? Or purchase from the shop?

Just read this entire thread! :D

It makes me laugh people have no idea how much money OcUK really makes! This £200k odd purchase is truly nothing compared to what Mark spends on yachts!

Will be great to see some pictures of it once you pick her up! Would be great to collect it from Italy and really test it on the way home :D

Gallardo is pronounced with a long non-phonetic "a", like the "a" sound in "garden" or "pardon", no hint of "gay" in there at all...unless you put it there...which seems a bit subconscious/freudian to me...

"OcUK, putting the gay into Gallardo". Nice tagline.

Still, if you are wont to mis-pronounce cars and car manufacturers, Ferrari as pronounced by my colleague from N.I. sounds like "f-rairy".

Still he pronounces Gallardo as "gay-airdo" - I'm not sure which is worse.

:)

Can someone fill me in. Why did Spie decide to sell the 911 Turbo? If my memory serves me right he's only had it for about a year.

Honest answer? I screwed up by specifying Tiptronic. It's still an auto box and you don't want that on a sports car.

I suppose you don't want it for "fun", but i imagine that they use it for a reason in F1 etc (because it is faster)

F1 or paddle shift is a manual gearbox with automatic clutch activation.

Tiptronic is an auto box, complete with torque converter that also has push button gear change.

The two are very different. With an F1 box there's no torque converter so no immediate rise in revs as the accelerator is pressed. As a result you feel more "connected" to the engine.

Does the 911 tips use a torque converter?

I personally love flappy paddle providing it's done right, I loved it in the Vanquish as essentially it's a manual box still, however in the S55 it doesn't really work.

edit: already answered

Ah, so it's a half-assed implementation. Thanks for the explanation. :) :o

I'm confused...
Drive an auto car at a constant speed, say 40mph. Press the accelerator firmly but not enough to initiate kickdown. Revs rise immediately even though speed hasn't increased. I call it the "elastic band" effect. Fine in a V8 4x4, but not so great in a sports car.

its not half assed

its just depends what you want from a car. Some people want cruisers with an auto box, but with the option to change gear if they want to have a bit of fun.

This type of system isnt for the sort of driver who wants complete control though.

In a manual, if you want to select 2nd and have it rev its nuts off 500rpm from the redline, you can. With an auto, it will think about whether this is a good idea and then change. If you want to do spirted driving, this sort of thing is likely annoy you.

But if your not really a spirited driving sort of person, its unlikely to bother you.
