Summer car. Audi TT or Lotus Elise?

I'd go for the MX5 (and most likely use the other 4 grand for something else) but be prepared for the hairdresser/girls car/poofter comments.

Here's another oddball suggestion, there's very few of them on the road, but how about a Nissan Silvia Varietta, not sure if they're down to 8 grand yet though.

Edit: Here's one for sale for 5 1/2 grand, though once you add on shipping and tax and so on it'll be closer to 8 grand. It'll also be closer to June/July ;)

The MINI, new MG aren't designed here though. The only reason those two examples are assembled here are for commercial reasons. Don't know about LR... I would be surprised if Ford/Yanks (oh wait it's the Indians and Tata now isn't it?) had any clue about what makes a good off roader though so I'd hazard a guess that they're still designed here. The Jag XF chassis was designed by Lotus. Aston Martin current chassis' are designed by Lotus. Lotus is comprised 95% by employees in the Norfolk or East Anglia area.

What are you on about?

The Mini was designed in the UK. Any MG is. Of course LR know 4x4, thats why BMW bought them.

THe XF chassis is all in house as is the new AJv8 Gen III v8 engine with 508bhp

Didn't know the MINI was. MG is chinese now and the lines are so convoluted now it's almost not worth talking about!

The others... try reading the thread. I was using them as examples why these companies are still "british" companies producing "british" designs.

Isn't the XF the one with the alloy chassis?

Last I checked Land Rover was owned By Tata (and Ford before) not BMW

BMW bought Land Rover along with its aquisition of Rover Group in 1994.

Maybe you should check more before trying to pass yourself across as the oracle of everything, which I've noticed in most threads you appear in.

BMW only owned LR for 6 years and sold them to Ford in 2000, meaning that I dont think any current products are from the BMW era.

Equally BMW never bought Rover for the 4x4 tech, as otherwise they would have kept LR.

Wrong. The current Range Rover, the companies flagship model, is from the BMW era. Until recently it was heavily BMW with BMW engines and navigation equipment, these days that has changed but the car itself was still designed in the BMW era using BMW money and a combination of LR and BMW expertise.

Equally BMW never bought Rover for the 4x4 tech, as otherwise they would have kept LR.

Please go away and read about and try and understanding the BMW and Rover relationship and why BMW sold LR.

That would be silly of me not to know that I guess. What with working at Land Rover and stuff... :p

BMW paid for the building I work in to be built under their ownership.

Nah, was considered but the roof rails would have made ingress really tight. New XJ will be (looks NOTHING like a current XJ) aswell as the XK and the new Range Rover platform (500kg lighter is the aim!)
